Another Wacky Sony Patent! |

This one made me laugh, because it’s so ridiculous! Apparently, Sony has filed another patent, this time for laugh detection?! What?! Siliconera has reported that Sony is experimenting with the technology (as well as other emotion tracking).

Apparently, the microphone picks up the laughter and the camera reads your body language. As to how that will affect anything in games, I don’t know. The patent goes on to describe how the technology works (like any patent) and how it can pick up on interactions such as “when two individuals give each other a ‘High Five.”

Next to video games, the patent explains it can be used on other devices, such as TV and film. Could this be the next step after Sony’s smile detection software from their Cybershot cameras? We’ll see. In any case, feel free to laugh your asses off at that diagram!

also, as you can see in the figure above, it’s not the PS3 Slim. It’s the PS3 Fat, the new design that is actually coming, controller is twice as big and the system itself stands above your knees!

  • lol, wow. mm How about this for use in a game? If you make your opponent laugh you win.

  • JimmyMagnum

lol itd probably be pretty popular :P.

Also, look at the information, the show is on channel 4 and it’s called Crazy Inventors, I wish I had that channel! Must be on at 1PM, but Eastern or Pacific?

This would work great in the Army of Two games. You could mirror the players actions after a fight with their ingame counterparts.

  • Thepreppymonk

if your like high fiving your mate and you get extra experience points in the game? lol

  • So sony has patented and a*** tickling machine! What you don’t see pictured is the second controller, the man is actually sitting on it. Oh yeah, it is a dualshock..

  • JimmyMagnum

lol, well, if you look at it, it’s not so much an ass tickling machine but an ass kicking machine. Hand crank spins it around, the extensions on the wheel behind him have boots on the ends (if you look closely). I thought the same thing when I first saw it lol

A*** (note 3 asterisks, not 1) tickling controller. Haven’t they tried that with Rez at some point?

On a more serious note though, what to do with people who show little to no emotion, especialy while gaming intensively. I hardly ever laugh @ games (or TV for that matter) even though I find something funny. I guess I laugh “on the inside”. So electrodes to read brainwaves or something will be their next pattent to sign up on?

Snap, and by 1 asterisk I meant 2. Lovely thing to try and post something coherent @ 5 am.
