Heavy Rain Developer Rants

HeavyRain2

Head of the Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain, pleads and rants with the press:

“From what you’ve seen, you’re in control second to second, so please help with me this because some people on the internet just make me crazy,”

“No! We don’t make Dragon’s Lair! This is not Dragon’s Lair – do you think I’m crazy? I’m not stupid. Do you think I develop on PlayStation 3 to do Dragon’s Lair again? It would be absurd. Of course it’s not.

“So we work on this thing, it’s fully controllable, you do what you want. When there is an action sequence, yes we integrate this QTE sequences. We’ve done it really in a new way, we really started from a blank page again to try to take the best out of this type of interface and find the thrill and excitement and make you feel at the heart of the action.

I’ve been dying to try a new serious attempt at making a branch-heavy adventure game, and this looks like the top contender.

yikes Cage is really riled up. he would probably be best off to ignore these dragon’s layer slayers though.
i quite enjoyed fahrenheit but hated the way you couldn’t want the cutscenes as you were too busy looking at the buttons below that and the controls were wonky and the plot went a bit too far.. i’m interested though.

nice thing about the QTEs in this game is they’re location specific so you pretty much have to watch the cutscene and look for those button presses. This game has a ton of promise and I hope it delivers because it is really shaping up to be an awesome game!

I too liked their cutscene approach. This game is going to be wonderful.

Just goes to show that people on the net generally don’t know what they’re talking about and don’t care either just as long as they can say anything they want to.

I really liked Fahrenheit, and I am so going to buy Heavy Rain as soon as possible. I am really looking forward to this game.

Indigo Prophecy was good but the controls were funky. Hopefully this game will fix that problem. The videos they have showed look very promising though also a bit linear.
