Rumor: Top Secret Massive PS3 Exclusive Incoming

You’ve got to love internet rumors, especially when it’s PS3 exclusives related. The guys ( and gals ) over at  PS3Xtreme claim to have the goods on a yet-to-be-announced PS3 exclusive.

First of all, don’t bother e-mailing us with desperate pleas; those e-mails will go unanswered. Secondly, you can theorize and speculate all you wish but you must always bear in mind that we did not confirm a damn thing. Thirdly, and this much we can almost promise: the game in question is something the vast majority of gamers will likely enjoy, and the only hint we can give you is that it is familiar. Well, we’re talking about a massive upgrade over the last installment, but nevertheless…familiar. The good news is that we might be able to spill the beans on this as early as January or February, but we’re at the mercy of Sony right now. Our source – who is no rumor-starter but the game designer currently working on the project – says his hands are tied on the issue, and we’ll continue to respect that. But if everything goes well, we’d like to think this game will be ready to go by the end of 2010; that may seem like a ways off, but we consider it a damn good reason to own a PS3.

You know about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War III, MAG, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, and The Last Guardian. This title will have a place in that elite group as soon as it’s announced; you can be guaranteed of that. Oh, and if any of you are wondering if there’s a chance the game will go multiplatform: no.

Clue # 1: It’s a  massive upgrade over the last installment, meaning it’s a sequel to a game already released. Clue #2: This title will have a place with ‘elite’ 1st and 2nd party titles could mean the mystery game will also be from a 1st or 2nd party dev team.

My guess is it’s Heavenly Sword 2. What does everyone else think?

Why do they even bother posting this crap?

Basically they are saying Sony will have another enjoyable exclusive in the future? whoop-de-doo!! I could have told you that, WITHOUT any insight in what is actually being produced right now.

No way will it be Heavenly Sword 2. All the original developers have gone to different projects and the first one was good, but it’s not some legendary IP worth reviving.

Who knows what it will be. They have a ton for late ’09 and early ’10, I’m glad to hear that they aren’t running out of great stuff to ship.

    “Star”hawk anyone??

Any chance it might be a title we havn’t seen on the PS3 yet, possibly from a PS2 line? As that would help with “Massive Upgrade” aspect.
Mabye the return of Sly Cooper, or even a new Kingdom Hearts title.

Heres one from far left field a new MechWarrier/Armored Core class game. Think of the Multiplayer!!! :P

It would suck immensely if they hyped the hell out of this mystery title and it turns out to be a Little Big Planet sequel.

I might be looking too much into it but the use of the word ‘massive’ to describe the game has to be another clue. Remember Kai’s ‘massive damage’ remark in HS.

Twisted Metal seemed to be a popular choice when I read the article yesterday (didn’t post it because there wasn’t anything really on it). That’s based on their having an interview with David Jaffe not too long ago.

TM could be an awesome game, though, but I don’t think it’s fanbase would warrant the title of “massive exclusive”, which usually would be used for an action/adventure/RPG game and not a vehicular combat game.

It’s definitely not going to be Heavenly Sword 2, though, seeing as it’s fanbase isn’t too large and it’s not an established franchise in a sense that it was the only entry in the franchise.

If it’s such a “massive” update, it could be a reintroduction of a franchise from way back in the PS1 days, like Tomba or something, but, as it stands, the title you guys listed with the most possibility would be a Kingdom Hearts sequel, but even that’s questionable.

    i’m saying Twisted Metal.

    3 clues:

    1. something the vast majority of gamers will likely enjoy.
    – i’d reckon Twisted Metal did have a huge following during the ps1 era. What more, Twisted Metal 2.

    2. it is familiar.
    – a car combat game. what couldn’t be more familiar than that.

    3. a massive upgrade over the last installment.
    – last installment being the ps2. and with the words ‘massive improvements’, think improved graphics, physics, and online play.

    sorry, i meant to say:

    2. it is familiar.
    – a car combat game. what could be more familiar than that.

I’d love to see Twisted Metal on the PS3!

My first game on the PS1 was Twisted Metal. I’ve been a fan of the series since.

    Twisted Metal 2. Good
Starcraft 2 Exclusive. Not Blizzards style.
    Everquest Console MMO?

Sly Cooper 4 is being done right now.
Dark Cloud 3. SHould of happened already.
Jax and Daxter? Possible. Appeal was pretty broad.

  13. #13 by HEAD_SHOTT on September 1st, 2009

Twisted Metal is already coming to the PS3.

    what about inFamous 2??

  17. #17 by JimmyMagnum on September 1st, 2009 [ 83111 Points ]

just throwing this into the rumor pool, but here’s what Take Two said at a recent financial phone call:

We’re not going to announce it. We’re not going to announce when we’re going to announce it. And we’re not going to announce a strategy about announcing it or about when we’re going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy.

Now, since nothing can really be said in terms of news pertaining to this particular article, and Take Two is hush hush about anything about the next GTA, one can always imagine that the next GTA may be the PS3 exclusive they speak of :P.

But then again, that’s only a 1% chance of that being even remotely true lol

  18. #18 by Fleakitten on September 2nd, 2009

I doubt MS would let the next GTA be a PS3 exclusive.

  19. #19 by JimmyMagnum on September 2nd, 2009 [ 83111 Points ]

unless the next GTA game was even more ambitious and R* and Take Two would flat out tell them that what they’re working on would be impossible to get on the 360, and stuck to that and wouldn’t allow any amount of money to allow the game to be dumbed down just so it can be on multiple platforms, but that’s an unlikely scenario, because R* likes to sell out to the highest bidder (though, Agent is a PS3 exclusive, at least, for now)
