Call of Duty Protest.

A protest against the Modern Warfare 2 timed exclusive map packs for Xbox has been organised. Due to take place on Monday September 7th, the protest calls for all PS3 gamers playing Call of Duty 4 or World At War online to change their clan tag to [W8XB] (an abbreviation of ‘We Hate Xbox’. I’ve several messages from my PSN contacts, an example of which;

W8XB
full message;

On Monday September 7th everyone who plays COD4 & 5 will put their clan tag as [W8XB] as a complaint and a protest to INFINITY WARD because there will be exclusive map available for Xbox, but not for PS3 too.) ***PASS IT ON***

I’m not sure how much effect this will have (especially considering Infinity Ward didn’t make World At War) but Activision well might take note. At least the Map Pack deal is only a timed exclusive but at the moment there are no exact details out yet on how long this exclusivity will last.

Will any of you guys join the protest?

    I don’t plan on buying either games so I’ve done my part. :)

    The protest is meaningless, it is just a timed exclusive, not even like batman joker exclusive…

    Meh. Thanks to Activisions greed with the UK pricing, I’m making my protest by not buying MW2 in the first place – something other gamers would be wise to do also, unless they want to be paying £55 for all their games in the future.

    There’s plenty of other quality games out for the PS3 during the rest of this year, and early next, to ensure that – for me at least – MW2 is far from an essential purchase.

    Yes, personally, I am more excited about MAG, I hope they can pull it off. I hope it sells well but I can’t be too sure whether it would sell more than a million within 6 months.

    This is really childish… Exclusive DLC is nothing to cry foul about (much less, timed exclusive DLC)

    Either enjoy the base game, play something else (there are a million amazing multiplayer shooters now), or buy a 360 if you really have to have this DLC.

    I was playing COD4:MW the other day on my PS3 and went into a map I’d never seen before (or since). It was like a training room, where all the furniture was made of thin wood, a bit like the first mission you play in the single player game. It was just after they did an update to COD, but as I said, I’ve not seen it since.

    Agreed with Darrin, this seems REALLY childish. Granted that’s easy for me to say. I’m just glad I won’t have to worry about any of this (at least for this generation). It’s amazing how little exclusives matter when you buy both consoles. Plus I’m the guy who just yesterday bought the second map pack of the three available in CoD5… I’m a little late to pick them up in the first place!

    That said, IF a person was going to do anything about this… I’d say the protest would be not buying the game. Activision probably won’t care about what you do on one of their products you already own in regards to a product you’re still going to buy from them. Either way, they make your money. To them they’ll probably take the sacks of cash MS gave them OVER a few disgruntled PS3 gamers who will eventually buy the game anyway.
