Remember WarDevil?

I know dev times for some console games can take forever and a half this gen but Digi-Guys’ Wardevil has been in media limbo since it was first revealed seemingly ages ago. It’s been so long that some have written the game off as Vaporware.

If you’re one of the few who are still anxiously anticipating  more info on WarDevil then you’re in luck. Digi-Guys has updated their webpage with some new ( yet still underwhelming ) images and a message;

This is an interview conducted with the creators of PixelJunk Monsters at Tokyo Game Show last week. The game is for the PSP and includes a few new features, such as a new island, new trap tower and new enemies. Online play will also be included. It will be hitting the PlayStation Store this Thursday (currently as a download-only title, using about 68MBs) to coincide with the launch of the PSP Go.

Blu-ray Releases for the Week of 9.28.09

Some classic Jim Henson movies this week (The Dark Crystal & Labyrinth). I’ve been thinking about re-watching The Dark Crystal for a long time, I liked it as a kid. There is also the 70th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz and Monsters vs. Aliens.

Other highlights this week are: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, The Universe Seasons 1-3, Burst Angel: The Complete Collection (includes OVA). For the full list click here.

Anything for you this week?

PSP Go Teardown and Chip Analysis

iFixit tore apart the PSP Go to see it’s innards. See the gory aftermath in this video or step by step. Any of you picking this up next week?

Highlights:

  • Sony is sourcing chips from a variety of manufacturers. Samsung, Cirrus,
Sharp, Oki, Fujitsu, and Foxconn are all key players in the PSP Go. As expected,
Sony is still providing its own main processor.
  • Samsung’s 16GB NAND flash chip essentially replaces the original PSP’s UMD
    drive.
  • The majority of chips are covered by EMI (electromagnetic interference)
shields. We had to remove a total of five shields to access the chips
(thankfully, they were not soldered onto the board). By comparison, the 3rd
Generation iPod touch has only one EMI shield.
  • Unfortunately, Sony still uses only an 802.11b chip for wireless internet
connectivity. This perhaps did not matter as much in the past. Now that there’s
no UMD slot, people will have to rely on other means (including Wi-Fi) to get
    content onto the PSP Go.
  • The battery is user replaceable! All that stands between you is seven screws
and the careful peeling of the Warranty Void sticker. You don’t even need a
soldering iron — the battery has its own connector to the logic board.
  • The Warranty Void sticker will only rear its ugly face (show a “VOID VOID”
message) if it’s peeled back more than necessary. Just slide an iPod opening
tool between battery and sticker and work gently side-to-side until the battery
    is free from the sticker.
  • The PSP Go uses very tricky connectors for its joystick, top buttons,
headphone jack, and Select/Start buttons. Thankfully, you need to disconnect
just the Select/Start buttons from the logic board to get it out of the Go’s
    plastic shell.
  • The sliding mechanism complicates the overall design and increases the
manufacturing cost of the PSP Go. Still, the pricing puts it within $50 of PS3
Slim territory, although the PS3 is not a direct competitor. It will be
interesting to see if this price is a deal breaker for hand-held gamers.

The Weekly Recap (September 20-26)

Tokyo Game Show Edition

We’re almost through Tokyo Game Show this year. Got a day or two left. So far, not much has been revealed, but we have gotten details on upcoming bundles and stuff like that. Other details for a few games have also been made public. There hasn’t been too many previously unannounced games shown and for the most part, was uneventful. We did get to see some actual games running on the new motion controller, which was a huge step over the 360′s Project Natal and it’s developer panel and target videos! That should be hitting shelves next spring. You can tell this TGS was lacking due to the number of submissions we got. Anyway, onto community news.

Starting things off, we recently had a giveaway for the HDVC Video Optimizer, and the winners were Yodaddy, LazerFX and Tom, so congratulations to you three! We also had a giveaway for vouchers for a free copy of Vampire Diaries, but no one replied, so we don’t know if anyone used those voucher codes, but they are expired now!

Now for this week’s recognitions. For starters, we only had 28 articles submitted total. For being a convention week, that’s really low! We had over 40 from GDC! Tosh is awarded this week’s ‘Contributor of the Week’ award for 7 submissions. As far as ‘Most Liked’ article, JimmyMagnum gets that for my article TGS 2009: The Last Guardian: Behind the Scenes and Trailer, getting 8 likes total. *pats self on back*. Eddie is awarded ‘Most Comments’ with his article PSP Go too Small? Use a Dual Shock Controller!, netting in a total of 15 comments, so awesome job there!

Also, it seems Tosh is now awarding points for these recognitions, and they are as follows:

  • Most likes (75 points)
  • Most comments(75 points)
  • Contributor of the Week(150 points)

Since Tosh doesn’t add points for himself, not sure where they would go, but I wound up with 6 articles total if it’s awarded to second place in that case :P .

Now for the fun section :P :

Which word in the English language is most frequently spelled wrong?

Instead of saying the answer in the comments section, PM me in the ‘Community’ and I will announce winners on the next recap! This way, more people will be able to take part in it (you may have to view one of my posts in there. The PM link would be above my post)!

What To Expect From KoeiTecmo In 2010

Warriors: Legends of Troy: Think Dynasty Warriors meets 300.  For PS3 and Xbox 360, the game covers the 10-year Trojan War. You can play as either Trojans or Greeks, each with different storylines and perspectives. Expect 4 player online multiplayer modes, with voice chat, and leadboards support when the game hits in Spring 2010.

Speaking of Dynasty Warriors…

Dynasty Warriors Online is coming to the PS3. Koei’s no stranger to MMO’s on a Sony platform. Nobunaga’s Ambition is still going strong on the PS2 in Japan and Uncharted Waters Online is currently available  for the PS3, also for Japan only. DWO is already available in Japan as well on PC with free online play. Here’s hoping DWO  for the PS3 makes a Red Hare size leep overseas next year.

Had enough of Dynasty Warriors yet? Too bad! There’s more!

Dynasty Warriors Strike Force:For the PS3 and 360 ( already available for PSP ) The Dynasty Warrior crew goes Super Saiyan in this PSP port. Not only does the game support 4 players online ( and off too?), voice chat, but Ryu Hyabusa makes an apperances in the PS3 version. The cast of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 also have special Dynasty Warriors outfits as well.

Moving on…

Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll: Koei’s not all about Dynasty Warriors. Zill O’ll first saw the light of day way back in the original PlayStation days, and was later remade for the PS2 and ported over to the PSP. No word on a release date but I hope this action rpg  makes it out of Japan.

Last but not least..

Quantum Theory:From the Tecmo side of Koei Tecmo. QT has said to be the Japanese version of Gears Of War only it’s for the PS3.

That about wraps it up. As a DW fan I can say that I can’t wait to get my hands on DW:SF!
