Sega Accidently Leaks Notes from SCEA Meeting That Include PS2 BC
There are several notes of interest in this document that was never meant for our eyes to see but they are far too juicy to look away.
As the title says…PS2 BC. Sony wants to sell PS2 games on the PSN.
Next…they are talking about creating a folder on PSN just for Sega Japanese imports where the games can be sold.
They mention putting all classic Sonic games on one Blu-ray as well for an anniversary edition.
Very interesting read, directly from Sega.
SCEA Meeting Aug 5th Notes
Aug 6 2009 – DRAFT FOR COMMENTSObjectives of Meeting
Dyer agreed to regular quarterly meetings with SOASony PS3
SCEA reiterated plans to sell 13 million PS3s this year
Big announcement back half of year they can’t talk about (potentially price cut of PS3 to reach hardware goals)
SCEA commented on indexing between PS3 and 360 SKUs, should be around 2:1 to garner most favorable treatment.Motion Controller
Spring 2010 launch (March in JP)
No bundle/pricing details yet, should come Sept 1
Plan on selling 4-5MM units WW
SCEA agreed to provide a list of Sega IP that would work well with the motion controller, Virtua Tennis was an example
Motion Controller support allows easy way to differentiate PS3 SKU
Other differentiation opportunities include PSP/PS3 interoperability – think of features that would make users want to buy both PS3 and PSP SKUs.Alpha Protocol
Michael Foster, product evaluator, said AP felt barely RPG. Initial level too challenging for players. “Mass Effect felt more RPG.”
Review notes sent to John Merlino a few weeks prior. After meeting Gerald mentioned AP is a high priority for his team.Planet 51
Sell in of PS3 SKU – SCEA noted that other movie titles on PS3 had underperformed as well (inc. Transformers) this cycle.
Dyer suggests contacting Susan at Walmart and asking what she wants in the pack to sell this SKU (movie tix etc)
Other possibilities are Hybrid movie disc (BD 25 or 50 with Game and Movie on same disc).Bayonetta
Collectors edition with Bayonetta Action Figure
Novo recommended launching PSN demo around Xmas based off a Jan 5th Ship date with 2-3 week run out to launch.
3-4 weeks is usually ideal demo timing with fresh content every week leading up to launch (trailers, insider video about PG heritage, video blogs).Vancouver 2010
HOME, Olympic destination would garner a lot of positive attention from SCEA
Should be doing same with Bayonetta, Marvel etc. Easy to launch in all territories.
HOME merchandizing opportunities (clothes etc).Sonic Racing
Open to DLC to differentiate PS3 SKU – not ratchet and clank but other characters
maybe characters from Rare or Fable universesYakuza
Could put Japanese games directly on PSN for download in a special Japanese Import section (pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game).
Might need to localize menus at least with subtitles.
SCEA interested in helping on MKTG side if they can have period of exclusivity.AVP
Another great HOME candidate
AVP avatars
Hybrid BD disc with movieIron Man 2
Great candidate for HOME space – explore Tony Stark’s lab etc.
Should have one for Marvel in general.PSU2
Could do bundle at GameStop with PSP 30-35K units on UMD, Go, or both.Valkyria 1937
Could bundle with PSP as well.Vanquish and Aliens: CM
Opportunity for PS3/PSP interoperability (see Eidos Batman, Army of Two, Assassin’s Creed for good examples).
If we offer that SCEA would be really interested in having us at their booth next E3.Thor
SCEA would like a look at the code soon.Sonic Anniversary
Could put out collectors edition with all old sonic games on one BD disc.
“Best of Sonic” for around $99.
SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (like Castlevania’s flip it over/backwards)PS2 emulator for PS3 (confidential)
SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN (GTA Vice City/Sonic/etc)
For co Marketing money show PS3 controller on TV ads – similar to EA Madden Spots, NCAA, etc…London Olympics
Perfect opportunity for Motion Controller integration.DC Digital Titles
If we provide a list of DC titles SCEA will let us know which ones they’re interested in having exclusively.
If we give them a long period of exclusivity they’ll give us more marketing support.PSP Titles
For SKU differentiation it’s best to offer features that are slightly different from PS3 version.
Titles that are coming up on PSP are Assassin’s Creed II, GTA China Wars, Resident Evil, Little Big Planet – all massive franchises.
SCEA has a specific PSP deck which they can send up with their hardware director for a chat.
Official Blog Asking For Your Questions
Posted by Jay in Interviews, PS3 software, PSP Software on September 21st, 2009
Over at the Official Blog, they’re trying to get questions from fans like us to ask developers this week at the Tokyo Game Show. They’re looking for “great questions”. Here’s what they mean by that:
Ah, and some clarification of what we mean by “great questions”; the ones we’ll pick are the ones that everyone else *won’t* be asking (you know, dates, inclusion of trophies… the easy stuff that will get announced anyway). Make us look intelligent! Or at least reasonably so.
Here’s a list of the games they will be asking questions for:
- PixelJunk Shooter
- PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe
- White Knight Chronicles
- Gran Turismo 5/ GT PSP
- Heavy Rain
- Valkyria Chronicles II
- Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
- Quantum
- Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll
You can shout out your questions in their comments section. Already, some interesting questions are being asked, but I’m sure you guys could come up with some better ones! Not sure when they will be picking which questions to use, so try to get yours in as soon as possible.
If you do submit any questions, post them here as well!

PES 2010 Demo Impressions.
Posted by Trev in Game Impressions, PS3 on September 21st, 2009

Konami revealed their latest version of PES which goes head to head with FIFA 10 next month. I was very optimistic for this demo as recent coverage had reported a considerable improvement in Konami’s series suggesting it has caught up with EA’s FIFA. The demo features 6 teams; Barcelona, Liverpool, France, Germany, Italy and Spain and you play one full match.
The first thing you notice about PES 2010 is the much improved presentation from the new menu styles with match programmes, licensed music and pre-loading the match whilst selecting your team. The first time you see the players in the tunnel took my breath away, I couldn’t believe how detailed the faces and kits are. The graphics are that good, with consistent kits with letter and number properly rendered. For the most part the cut-scenes and replays keeps the frame rate up but it could still be a little better, I hope the full version irons this out as replays can be difficult to watch.
The first thing I noticed about the actual game play though was slow response times and it feeling very automatic. You can’t manually pass without using the righ stick which proves very tricky which was disappointing, also shot dummies wouldn’t allow you to fake your opponent and had no animation, very peculiar. There also seems to be no advantage rule with all fouls being immediately called and no quick free kicks can be taken. The CPU also doesn’t foul you and I have yet been unable to take a free kick at goal, I could see the scoring 5 FK trophy being difficult to acquire. Goal keepers are also questionable with timing their runs leaving open goals and seemingly not fully extending their arms to make saves. Players also run like hunchbacks.
But despite all these problems it is still a considerable improvement over PES 2009 and the game play can prove to be as fun as ever. It’s not quite at the levels of the series on the PS2 but it is very close. Its an enjoyable game of football which seems to be splitting opinions as to whether the king is back. The game is still not finished though but Konami will need to pull their socks up and keep their heads high if they are to reclaim the title.
PSP Go too Small? Use a Dual Shock Controller!

Something I didn’t know until just now…but it makes perfect sense! With the inclusion of bluetooth support, you can now pair your Dual Shock to your PSP Go and play games the normal way!
We know there will be stands galore available for the PSP Go as there were for every other version of the PSP, so I’ll be making use of this although it does make it a tad less portable.
I came across this info on “10 Things You Need to Know about the PSP Go” list. The list went as follows:
1. It’s light. Really Light
2. You can use a Dual Shock 3 with it.
3. No UMD Drive
4. Full PSP game downloads only work with 1 PSP at a time.
5. PSP Go games are registered to your PSN account
6. You may need to buy some new accessories
7. Sony’s Media Go software will convert your media for free
8. You don’t need a PC to access the PSN Store
9. 16 GB of space isn’t alot.
10. Chicks dig it.
FIFA 10 Advert.
This epic advert was shown during half-time of the Manchester derby today (fantastic match btw).
