Borderlands PS3 Co-op Issues
Posted by Nico in Borderlands, PS3, PSN on October 22nd, 2009

Aside from Borderlands having the coolest weapon selection and quirky yet brilliant visuals and engrossing gameplay, oh and the coolest cover art ever! There appears to be one slight problem with the game. That “problem” is that the online co-op feature of the game is completely broken and I mean busted! Now this is not on a small scale either it’s happening to a lot of people. Now I won’t pay 120 dollars on a game (Australia) and have the multiplayer be so bad, especially in a game like Borderlands, it’s just not acceptable!
PS3 gamers and myself from all over the world are experiencing several game-breaking issues including a 30 minute freeze when joining a game, not having your friends show up on the games in game friends list and seriously laggy games and that’s if your lucky to even connect to anyone. In these modern times and the work that goes into making these games, I expected a lot better.
Considering the game is being sold on the promise of a seamless drop-in/drop-out co-op experience, gamers are really kicking off on the Gearbox forums. Its really frustrating and embarrassing on how developers can release a game with multiplayer which in this case being a big feature to the game. It’s like buying a car with no wheels!
Please Gearbox sort it out so we can appreciate the great game which Borderlands is.
Critter Crunch Mini-Impressions
Posted by Darrin in Critter Crunch, Game Impressions on October 21st, 2009
This trailer shows of the game pretty well, but I would suggest skipping the bland cartoon story bits at the beginning:
Critter Crunch – A BARF IN THE NIGHT – Launch Trailer! from Capy! on Vimeo.
The quantity of small, cheap titles on PSN has been growing, but it’s harder to filter and find the ones that are really worth playing. Critter Crunch is worth playing. It’s a fairly simple colored block matching game, but for that genre it’s definitely one of the most polished and playable.
Pros
- Great addicting colored block matching game.
- Lots of combos and extras
- Great HD art and effects
- Full suite of play modes: puzzles, campaign-style adventure, vs., and survival co-op
- Priced well

The PS3 version of Tekken 6 will have a 4GB optional install to decrease load time. Installed copies will take just a couple of seconds while uninstalled ones can take up to 15 seconds. Prepare to delete some of those demos and videos to make room.

PlayStation Home Update: Content, Spaces and a Patch!
Posted by Jay in PlayStation Home, Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on October 21st, 2009
Tomorrow, PlayStation Home will have a few new things to check out, including an all new Uncharted 2 space, which is made from assets directly from the game itself. The space includes three mini-games, one being the Mask Mayhem mini game, where you can search for scattered remnants of an ancient Ganesh mask, which will be added to your wardrobe upon finding all the parts.
There’s also the Torch Race, which I am assuming is just a basic time trial race. And finally, a new battle card game called Fortunate Thieves:
… where players will seek out treasure on maps that are fully dynamic (with weather and terrain effects,) all while using the expandable card pack to thwart one another with a bevy of treacherous tricks.
According to Jack Buser, this is pretty much a full-on game that you’d expect to pay money for (so it’s that in-depth), but is completely free!
Also coming to Home tomorrow are two new spaces for Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6. Apart from both spaces containing content for said games, there will also be 25 alternate Street Fighter IV costumes that will be available in the Mall.
Speaking of the Mall, at the Estates store, you will also be able to pick up the new Penthouse personal space, which is supposed to represent a luxurious urban condo (and with that comes a huge number of new virtual items as well).
And finally, we’ve all been having issues with Home since 1.3 came out, but there will also be a new patch to be released tomorrow morning to coincide with the release of all this content (v1.32), which aims to fix all the server and sign on issues we’ve been dealing with, so it should be far easier to get into Home now.
UPDATE
According to Cydoniax, the publishing is taking longer than expected, so the update will take place on Friday instead of tomorrow.

40 Hour PS3 Marathon Sets World Record!
Posted by Nico in Grand Theft Auto 4, PS3 on October 21st, 2009

An article in Zeenews states that Chirantan Patnaik, a 26 year old private equity broker, spent a massive 40 hours and 20 minutes playing GTA IV on the PS3 which may sound quite sad at first, but it is an impressive mental feat to pull off. The 40 hour marathon started from 10:00 am on September 4th and ending at 2 am on September 6th. The safety guidelines for the record allowed him to take a 10-minute break after every hour, but Patnaik said he only took four breaks throughout the entire attempt . The previous record for playing GTA IV was 28 hours 1 minute which was set late last year.
And by all accounts Chirantan had never played GTA IV!:
“There are so many other games which I have played for long hours. But I had never tried playing this particular game seriously. However, I knew that I can do it after I saw my brother playing it … I enjoyed the game very much. It’s fun playing long hours. It wasn’t that exhaustive for me, as one might feel.”
Chirantans’ marathon was monitored by Zapak.com which had observers in place to inform Guinness World Records and make the attempt legitimate.
Chirantan describes himself as an avid gamer that buys “The latest games in the market if it interests me. I don’t mind spending money on games at all.” To prepare for the massive endurance test he took up Yoga and exercised on a regular basis. He also drank a LOT of coffee during the marathon!
A true hardcore gamer! Hope he tries to break more records in the near future but I want to see some contenders to try and kick him off the podium!
No More PixelJunk Games for PSP?
Posted by Jay in PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, PSP, PSP Go, Talk on October 20th, 2009
According to GI.biz, Q Games founder, Dylan Cuthbert, has said, on Twitter, that:
I don’t think we’ll port anything else to the PSP, we have to see how [PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe] does as there’s a lot of piracy.
So right now, due to open chats of piracy of the game and whatnot, development of future Q Games titles showing up on PSP largely depend on how many people actually purchase the game, seeing as piracy, to them anyway, is a serious problem. I know a few of you really look forward to seeing their titles on the handheld, I just hope you get legal copies of the game if you want them to bring others over as well! Hopefully they’ll find something that would be an effective anti piracy technique, though.
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time Update
Posted by Jay in Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time, Sales on October 20th, 2009
Turns out, IGN has the first review up for the game, giving it a 9/10. Though I feel it will be largely overlooked due to the release of Uncharted 2 last week (and the fact that, really, only people who are familiar with Sony’s systems and games, would be able to recognize who Ratchet and Clank are). I hope people will pick this game up because it’s another one of those great looking and great playing franchises that folks should pick up. Here’s what IGN had said about the game:
Insomniac has created a visually appealing game with enough personality to match its good looks. With so much to level-up and enjoy, there’s enough to keep even hardcore Ratchet fans coming back for more — especially with the new Clank sections that feature some enthralling puzzles. Now that the awkward space sections from Tools of Destruction have been replaced, there’s almost nothing I don’t like about Crack in Time. Unfortunately, as Crack in Time still relies heavily on the tried and true Ratchet Formula, gamers that were satisfied with old Ratchet games might not have enough reasons to come back.
To keep you all in the loop of information, this Friday is Insomniac’s Community Day (10AM to 4:30PM), so if you live around their HQ, be sure to stop by and pick up some swag, get some autographs, eat food and drink drinks! If it’s like the Resistance 2 Community Day, expect a panel discussion as well!
Beyond that, be sure to check out the Ratchet and Clank space in PlayStation Home. Quest for Booty is also on sale in the Store as well, if you’re inclined to check that out as well, all for the release of A Crack in Time.
As a final bit of news, there will be two demos released on the PlayStation Store, the first of which will appear this Thursday, featuring Clank. Here’s a few details concering that:
In this demo, you’ll take get to take control of Clank as he explores the Great Clock learning more about his past and his new time-based abilities that you’ll need to utilize to solve puzzles and defeat some of Dr. Nefarious’ minions. This is some brand new gameplay that Insomniac Games is introducing to the series and we all hope you enjoy it!
Details on the Ratchet demo will come up in a couple days or so, so be sure to check back often for Ratchet and Clank, as well as other PS3 related, news.
