“Little Big Planet 2 Would Be Counter Productive”

chewit

…or so says Martin Lynagh of Media Molecule. They wish to continue their support on LBP via downloadable content. One might even take this as a hint, that their next game may not be LBP related at all.

Our extensive interview with Media Molecule – part one of which is to be published tomorrow (Thursday), with part two going live on Monday – covers a variety of subjects. When it came to the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on the PS3, they were decidedly unambiguous.

“I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.” said producer Martin Lynagh, referring to DLC and updates for the existing game.

Level designer Danny Leaver said that a sequel would fragment the LBP community. “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.” he said.

Media Molecule have given what is surely the most dedicated post – launch community support in the history of video games, and such dismissal of a sequel should serve to reassure fans still further.

I’m disappointed by the DLC so far. One map pack, and that’s it. (Oh, and a thousand costumes I don’t care about.) The possibilities are endless, but they’re doing nothing. What about some Indiana Jones levels? Star Wars? Maybe licensing costs too much, so how about something Sony already owns? Like an Uncharted 2 map pack? Or Killzone map pack?

    Sheesh, what a waste.

I played LBP but never really got into it like that. Dont get me wrong the game is fun (if ur playing with friends) and the graphics are amazing but its just the kiddy stuff doenst work for me.

Little Big Planet has endless possiblities. This is one game that doesn’t need a sequal. MM can just continue to add on to the level creation aspect and create new features, like water , some snow, weather effects, and alot more to the game.

more map packs would be great but MM relies on user creativity. Either that, or they are genuinely lazy :P

“I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.”

This sounds terrible. They released one good DLC pack and a million little stickers and costumes nonsense. That’s going to continue? Sounds terrible. I hope they have bigger plans than that.

Where is web-based level queue system that they mentioned months ago?

“This is one game that doesn’t need a sequel”

LBP is amazing. Easily my favorite game of the past five years.

    The user-levels are awesome.

But it needs continuing evolution on the core product to keep it fresh.

I can’t see a link to our site, who were the first people on the web to post this, as it comes from an exclusive interview of ours. Could you please tell me where the link is, or post one if it has been “forgotten”.
