Well, it is about that time of year again. Since there aren’t any real big releases between now and January 1st, I’m going to go ahead and throw this up in here. As you can see from the image above, we’re going to have three main sets of awards. Next year begins the ’10s, so we’re going to have awards for the best and most important games of the last decade (from 2000-2009). We will also be doing nominations for Game of the Year (which will be specific to PS3).
As far as Most Important and Best games of the decades, these can be any platform. As for the most important nominations, these don’t necessarily have to be the best games, but rather, a game that either opened the doors to gameplay ideas or defined a genre and laid the groundwork for games to come. You can choose a game for every category listed. Nominations with the most votes will win the category. (If there’s any categories I missed, please shout it out in the comments section)
We’ll start off with Game of the Year nominations:

GOTY without question is Uncharted 2

here’s my choices:
Game of the Year
Game of the Year – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Best Action/Adventure – Uncharted 2
Best First Person Shooter – Killzone 2
Best Simulation – IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
Best Racing – Need for Speed: SHIFT
Best Rhythm/Dance/Music – the Beatles Rock Band
Best Multiplayer Title – Tough one, probably Uncharted 2
Best Game of the Decade
Best Game of the Decade – Metal Gear Solid 4
Best Platformer – Jak 2, had the most fun with that
Best Action/Adventure – Uncharted 2
Best Shooter (non-FPS) – Metal Gear Solid 4
Best Sports – NFL 2K5
Best Racing – Gran Turismo 4, the Forza games come in close, though
Best Rhythm/Dance/Music – Rock Band 2
Best Survival Horror – Dead Space
Most Important Game of the Decade
Most Important Game of the Decade – Grand Theft Auto 3, this game opened up soo many doors, I will be surprised if this game doesn’t win this. It literally opened the floodgates for the numerous open-structure sandbox titles since.
Most Important Platformer
Most Important Action/Adventure – GTA3, as mentioned above
Most Important First Person Shooter – Halo. Though I never really liked the game, it did pave the way for future console FPS titles.
Most Important Sports – NFL 2K5, $20 for a full game on release, and it was better than the $50 Madden title. This was an important one because it was the last real competition Madden titles had, until EA bought off the NFL rights and monopolized the market.
Most Important Racing – I’d probably give this one to Forza 2, because it really showed Gran Turismo that it’s not the only big boy in town, and they had amazingly simple and robust Livery customization. I’ve spent hours on that game.
Most Important Rhythm/Dance/Music – Guitar Hero, this really broke through in a big way and gained big popularity. This was one of those games that went from a targeted niche market to mainstream almost instantly. Best game still goes to Rock Band 2, though, because of the 1000+ song library you can download (the game has the best DLC backing of any game to date) and the first Rock Band was the first time a game like that had an entire band you can play.
Most Important Survival Horror – Dead Space. This game was a new IP from EA. It was definitely one of the freakiest titles and was a blast to play. For being a new IP, it did manage to show true promise and was able to deliver on such promises. As to whether or not Dead Space 2 will be able to capitalize on that is to be determined. It broke free of the survival horror mold and went with over the shoulder camera view (similar to Resident Evil 4) and was much faster paced. Definitely a great game.
Most Important Multiplayer – This one, undoubtedly, goes to Battlefield 1942. This was the first game that allowed you to control multiple vehicles as well as run on foot in first person. All online. This game allowed you to control ships (destroyers and aircraft carriers), submarines, fighters, bombers, tanks, jeeps, APCs, use fixed cannon positions, artillery, and other fixed gun emplacements. Out oif all the games I’ve ever played, this one I probably played the most.

Best Rhythm/Dance/Music – n/a
Best Survival Horror – Resident Evil 4
Most Important Game of the Decade
Most Important Game of the Decade – GTA III, I never stopped playing it, none of my friends stopped playing it. It was simply amazing.
Most Important Platformer – LittleBigPlanet, with user created levels it broke the boundaries and was a joy to look and play at. It also introduced physics to platformers creating new puzzles to solve.
Most Important Action/Adventure – Shadow of the Colossus, hardly any dialogue, no back story and a horse is your only friend yet i have never been so immersed.
Most Important First Person Shooter – Call of Duty 4, it wasn’t the biggest selling game for no reason. reinvented online shooters and had a fantastic single player campaign to boot.
Most Important Sports – PES, finally toppled FIFA as the pinnacle of football games. we’ll ignore how they threw it away towards the end of the decade on the PS3…
Most Important Racing – Grand Prix 4 – The last truly great F1 simulation
Most Important Rhythm/Dance/Music – n/a
Most Important Survival Horror – Resident Evil 4, broke all the rules of the series and made a game that critics and fans both liked.
Most Important Multiplayer – Call of Duty 4, the biggest console multiplayer ever, which added RPG style levelling up.
