SCEA offers alternative Heavy Rain Box art… |

European box artThe North American Box art

European box art __________________________ The North American Box art

PS3 owners in North America were finally given the US Heavy Rain box art to ogle before the games release in February. But Quantic Dream, the France based developer got a bit of a shock from across the pond when many fans and forum users alike exclaimed their dislike for the the US versions’ box art.

SCEA are offering buyers of the game the chance to use the EU versions box art instead of their original one. Cristian Cardona (Associate Product Manager of Software Marketing) stated that “SCEA will be releasing an alternative box art for Heavy Rain in PDF format around the time the game launches”. This “Alternative” being the EU versions box art.

Are any of you guys from North America going to be changing your box art when you pick up the game? Let us know in the comments below..

R u serious ppl, ur complaining about a box cover art. Now ive seen everything. C’mon folks its not like ur gonna put the actual box art in ur ps3. Who cares what it looks like, to b honest i really like it. This is prolly the most rediculous post ive ever commented on. WTF!!!

  • I prefer the European box art myself. I’m not complaining about the US one, but since I have a choice now. I’ll print out the EU one.

  • I am Legend

Can somebody tell me what makes the EU box art much better than the NA. IM SO CONFUSED??????

  • Luke

@ I am Legend, I am with you on this. I can’t believe they are even going to attempt to give people an option on this.

I might be wrong but once you print out the PDF copy won’t the thing look like total crap? I guess if you use photo paper you will be in good shape but I can’t believe someone would even go through all that trouble.

  • Maybe there’s too much gray in the NA boxart. I don’t know. All I know is that it’s ugly but I’m not complaining to Sony about it.

I rather save my complaints for more important things like, ‘Sony, where’s my Legend of Dragoon remake?!’

  • jerry

I have to say the EU box art is alot better. One the American art has the characters on the cover which is so boring. The paper crane looks cool and the hint of blood makes it more interesting. Come on atleast they are willing to satisfy their unhappy fans.

  • I am Legend

@fleakitten & jerry why does it matter what the BOX ART looks like. Its somethin that wraps around a case that holds the GAME inside. Teh box art is not the game and it doesnt determine whether the game is good or not. Gve me a break. The NA box art is totally fine. C’mon ppl.

  • steffo

of the two, the EU box art is much better, however you want to judge it. By comparison, the US art looks a bit tacky, since the characters are very CG looking, and it gives you no extra insight into the game what so ever, but removes a lot of the mystery that just having the origami crane there adds.

Of course, if you don’t care about the box art, then it doesn’t matter, but for those people that do, I think it’s nice that they’ll be putting up the EU art in a PDF for people that want to change it.

  • Luke

@I am Legend Although I think the box cover art is fine I am sure they are going with what appeals to people the most.

For instance lets say you don’t know anything about a product. If you don’t get stimulated visual from just looking at it, chances are pretty high you won’t buy it. They are giving people what they want.

  • I am Legend

Yea i kno Luke, i jus think its so damn dumb that ppl are complaining about a box art. Its bad enough that we have these debates about ps3 and 360. Now were debatin about box arts. WOW.

  • I think the EU box is a little better, but I don’t mind the US one either.

But let’s be honest – who bloody cares? I look at boxart once… when I get the game. After that, it’s in a rack and all I see is the spine. As far as I’m concerned, the cover could be plain white with the name of the game in a plain black Arial typeface.

Has anyone seriously EVER bought a game purely because of the cover art? Surely reviews are what you go by, or – at the very least – the screenshots on the BACK of the box?

  • I am Legend

Thank You Paranoimia, finally somebody gets it. Paranoimia and Luke are the only two ppl who get it. Who gives a shit about the box art. Stop complaining and jus enjoy the game when it comes out.

  • matt

I was trying to think of what some covers of games I own even look like. Guess what, I can’t. MW2 is one but only because when the game loads it is the exact same picture.

This reminds me of the Madden cover that they gave the same treatment to when Brett Favre (With Green Bay) was on the cover, and came back to play for the Jets. Who cares!!!

Of the two the EU version is better and to someone who buys games off of covers (these people do exist), the US version is less appealing.

  • JimmyMagnum

big woop, content of the game is more important than what’s on the cover. Kinda brings meaning to the phrase “can’t judge a book by its cover”. If the game happens to be really good, it will be the loss of the folks who decided that the game wouldn’t be worth it due solely by its cover. Most people rely on reviews, though, so that would only be a small percentage of gamers anyway (if you could even call them that)

  • Mims_

Well, the way I see it is that it is good either way.. The EU one looks better like most everyone’s been saying. But, the US version has the chick with the nice rack, so, I’m down for which ever one.
