PlayStation Network Outage Update
Though this error has happened in the past (8001050F), but it had never happened on this scale, the outage seems to be worldwide, and affecting a huge majority of users. It’s causing people to lose trophy data, inability to access even single player games (like Heavy Rain) and causes some corrupted data. Jeff Rubenstein of SCEA has updated the public on the official blog stating:
We’re aware that many of you are having difficulty connecting to the PlayStation Network this evening. Those of you with “slim” PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected.
Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.
Is the not-affecting-slim deal accurate? I feel a lot of folks here have a Slim and are having the same problem, so it seems more universal than being isolated to the fat systems. Since they know what’s causing the issue, it should be back up in due time. One thing I definitely advise you to do, though, is not to attempt to play ANY games just in case the error irreversibly deletes all trophy data. Apparently other things affected are downloadables (DLC, movies etc), saying the content wasn’t purchased or something along those lines, so just to be on the safe side, don’t use your PS3 until the issue is resolved, even if you haven’t tried to see if you’ve gotten the errors.
Also, this site has been hit with heavy traffic, so you may get some Internal Server Errors, so to save up on some of the bandwidth, Tosh currently only has 1 post on the home page and I opted not to use an image on this to more effectively get the word out to our readers.
UPDATE:
This error is happening on non-connected PS3s as well, which means there’s something wrong with the firmware. People are calling it the Y2K10 or 02/28/2K10 bug, since it usually reverts the system clock back to 1999. For some reason, this affects almost everything else as well, and the only probable fix will be a firmware update. Some folks are thinking that the PS3 and the system clock want to recognize 2010 as a leap year, and the calendar says “no way dude, that’s not for a couple years”, and the conflict is causing the system to crap all over itself. I still advise to not even bother touching the system until the issue is resolved, though (manually setting the clock won’t work either).
And yeah, it’s confirmed the Slim systems are just fine. Sounds like a definite incompatibility issue with the firmware and the older models.
Playstation Network Down And Deleting Trophies?

I just downloaded the latest patch for FIFA 10 and when the game started up I got error code 8001050F saying trophy data could not be found. I then check my trophy list and whaddya know? All my trophies for FIFA 10 have disappeared, the game is not even listed anymore as if I had never played it. A quick search on the forums reveals other players experiencing the same problem with other games, not being able to play PS Store titles and XMB themes have becoming corrupt.
I am still unable to sign in at the moment but hopefully Sony will get the PSN back up along with our trophies and themes. I pray they have not become corrupt and lost forever. Anyone else lost valuable data and having problems too?
A community investigation appears to be taking place at http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General-Discussion/8001050F-Registration-of-Trophy-Information-could-not-be/td-p/10297418
New Battlefield: Bad Company 2 TV ad
Posted by Ace in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Media, PS3, Xbox 360 on February 28th, 2010
EA recently flicked this trailer up on the net, expecting to hype the game even further, and for a good reason: it’s awesome. The trailer flicks game play footage at you, whilst quoting some of early but very positive reviews. Looks Like DICE is determined to bring down the Money bags at Infinity Ward. I’m ready for something, anything that will bring down the famous buggy Modern Warfare 2. Anyways Enjoy the heart beating pressure rising trailer.
Final Fantasy XIV Closed Beta Set for March

VanaFest 2010 kicked off over the weekend. Besides the new content set to make it’s way to the eight year old MMO, Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix finally announced the date for the first wave of beta for their newest upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV.
The closed beta will begin March 11th.
If you’re one of the unlucky ones who aren’t selected initially you may still get your chance.
“Those who were not selected in this drawing, fear not, for there will be other opportunities to come. “Be sure to stay tuned!” SE announced.
The Weekly Recap (February 21st-27th)
Posted by Jay in Weekly Recap on February 28th, 2010

After spending the past couple hours on trying to figure out how to make an interactive graph akin to Darrin’s Sales Data charts, I finally figured it out. Thanks to Darrin for pointing me in the right direction, though! To see why I needed it, be sure to check out the “Poll” tab. Makes Poll results look much better this way, too
As far as the content this week, we managed to get 28 counted submissions (weekly and community-based articles are not counted). That’s a bit more than what we’ve been getting, and with PAX coming up later this month (March), we’re sure to get a bunch of stuff to report then. As for this week? Not too sure, but we’ll see (as with the upcoming weeks). I know BFBC2 will be hitting store shelves and everyone is raving about the game.
Kind of went off track there haha. This week’s news circled around mostly media, such as trailers, TV spots, and a few other pieces. There were some games industry-related “News” though, including Warner buying out Rocksteady (the guys behind Arkham Asylum, WRC looking into real-time positioning data, more RAM available to developers to access, and the start of the PS3 shortage.
We’ve also got a couple reviews by Trev, including Heavy Rain and the new Resident Evil 5 DLC. Fleakitten also had a very popular editorial, this one about FPS games ruining the industry, which won both “Most Comments” and “Most Liked”.
God of War II also had a bit of a showing as well, including exclusive gameplay for GameTrailers TV, the E3 2009 demo hitting the PlayStation Store last Thursday, and no install data alongside seamless loading. The game will be hitting the states two weeks from Tuesday, with other areas getting it later that week.

Alright, first off, the winner for Heavy Rain was announced last Sunday, with Emrah taking home the prize. Lucky. Maybe I would have had a better chance if I submitted 4 entries as opposed to one
. Eddie has also officially confirmed that he will be representing the site over in Boston during the PAX, which takes place on March 26th. I’m sure this will be the first of many Live Blogged expos. GDC and E3? Here we come…

Thanks to Darrin for pointing me in the right direction to get an interactive chart on here for poll results! To see what the choices were, click on a slice and it will tell you what it’s for and how many votes it got. I would have had a Legend, but the text was too small.
Be sure to vote in this week’s poll, ‘Has your gaming time decreased as your age increases?’
Well, that’s it for this week. March is going to be a huge month for releases, thus it will also be a huge month for news. Stick around, especially for that countdown ending tomorrow! I still have no idea what it is, as Tosh is being pretty tight-lipped about it. Since the countdown has been up since way earlier this month, though, it should be pretty big! Thanks for reading
