Official Update: Latest PSN Downtime Info [Error 8001050F]

Here is the latest update on the PlayStation Network right from the source. Hopefully they correct this issue for next year.

Leave your PS3 turned off until tomorrow morning to be safe.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Didn’t see oly1kenobi post pending, here is some more info him.

It has officially been confirmed on the EU PSN site, that the error is indeed a “clock functionality” issue. They are recommending to not use any non-slim PS3 systems until the issue has been resolved. They also mention that is should be resolved within 24 hours. I wonder if that means they are just waiting and hoping that the system fixes itself after the rumored 2/29/10 date problem passes. Let’s hope not. A copy of their post is reprinted here:

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.

When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”

When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

There is no PSN downtime if you have a Slim PS3 you can connect and everything’s fine, it’s a Fat PS3 issue. Sony is just hoping when midnight hits tonight the internal clocks will adjust themselves properly and then they can fix it for future dates with a firmware update.

I had this same error code back in nov. I think I even made a post about it…. Day 1 60gig. I sent my ps3 to sony. Laredo TX. It was working but not right… I get it back, It dont work at all, and sony refunded my $150.00 (to get it fixed) and I bought a new one…

you might still be fine, though. there’s about 35 minutes ontil it’s 12AM GMT, which people are suspecting Sony is waiting to see if it going to Mach 2nd would cause the error to fix itself. If they are actually working on resolving the issue, it could be longer, though
