Infinity Ward Employees Fired

It seems Activision, the owner of Infinity Ward has sacked IW’s president Jason West and studio head Vince Zampella. I thought all the doomsday stories were over but it would appear not. G4 reported that Activision sent a couple of heavies (Juggernauts) in suits after filing a Securities and Exchange Commission filing against IW charging two senior employees with insubordination. This has all ended up with Jason West definitely being unemployed as Kotaku confirmed via his Facebook, it has still not been confirmed if Vince Zampella if officially off the IW team.

This is incredible news with the 2 scheduled DLC packs for Modern Warfare 2 are still yet to be released so you wonder about their final quality. This also raises serious doubts as to whether a 3rd Modern Warfare 2 will be made by Infinity Ward, I think it’s safe to assume Activision will churn one out no matter what but it makes you wonder about its final quality. Could we now see a mass exodus from Activision as the IW team going Oscar Mike?

IW never really felt like part of Activision’s dream for game domination.

I’m surprised they waited this long to start taking down main staff. But with Red Octane and Neversoft gutted like fish a couple of weeks ago, nothing should be surprising anymore.

Hope everyone lands on their feet.

I think IW should pull away from Activision like Bungie did M$. They need to be there own company. With MW2 selling the way it did im pretty sure the can afford there own studio.

activision is the death of IW (and Blizzard…)

both great publishers but under activition they are too greedy and profit-hungry…

Supposedly, this was for “insubordination”. I have no idea what happened, but it’s possible that they did something that they deserved to be fired for.

I thought that IW wanted to do something completely different for their next game.

I’m guessing that Activision wants them to make MW3 instead, and got rid of the guys that were pushing back on that.

Darrin got it. Heres from GI.biz:

Two senior members of staff have been marched out of the Infinity Ward studio following accusations by Activision of contract breaches and subordination, according to reports this morning.

The only reason they’d crack down on IW management would be because of something like this, not because of conflict of interest or creative differences, especially since the CoD games are their strongest titles, though, breach of subordination could deal with the latter.

Well, filing a report with the SEC that two senior members could be let go is not something to be taken lightly so maybe Activision DID have a reason for this?

They were picked up by Activision prior to Call of Duty arriving…October 2003 maybe?

Unfortunately, like with Tecmo, we won’t ever know the full details. It’ll be a he said, she said ordeal.
