SOCOM 4 was announced today to be under development at Zipper Interactive, the creators of the first 3 SOCOM games, as well as the massive multi-player game MAG. It is set to be released this fall exclusively for the PS3.
“I wanted to drop in and deliver some truly exciting news – on behalf of everyone here at Zipper Interactive, I’m pleased to announce that SOCOM 4 is indeed in development and is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 3 this fall,” announced Jeremy Dunham, the Sr. Community Manager at Zipper Interactive on the official Playstation Blog.
The single-player campaign will take place in the jungles, mountains, and even urban cities of South East Asia. You will control the Ops Commander, as well as give orders to your 5 person NATO squad. I say 5 “person”, because there will be one South Korean female operative in your squad. You will have six days to complete your mission against a revolutionary army that has taken control of a country bordering the Strait of Malacca, a major shipping lane for the world. The campaign will contain 14 missions that will consist of about 12 hours of game play. Although no details have been released, there will also be a 32-person multi-player mode. For more details, IGN has an exclusive first look at the game here.
