Final Fantasy XIII Ships 5 million Copies

Square Enix sent out a press release last night that announced that Final Fantasy XIII has shipped 5 million units worldwide. Three million units were shipped in North America and Europe, with closer to 2 million copies in Japan. Overall, the Final Fantasy series has shipped over 96 million units. Bear in mind, it doesn’t mean that 5 million copies has sold, just that they have shipped to stores. I also remember reading somewhere earlier in the week that the copies sold in Japan have put the game in the top 5 of best selling games in Japan for all time. There has also been no mention of PS3 vs XBOX 360 copies, but, due to the limitations on the XBOX 360 the PS3 will most likely be way ahead in sales.

I am curious how the sales will break down. If someone owns a 360 they will not buy a PS3 for this game. I would imagine there is a 20%-30% dual system ownership out there. Just how many 360 owners play FF remains to be seen.

They should sell out those copies in the first month or so. A lot of people have been waiting for this game for a very long time.

Well, I pre-ordered and picked it up on Tuesday. Now I just need to have some time available for gaming and I’m set.
