Crytek: “Crysis 2 To Be Visually Unbeatable On PS3” | PS3Blog.net
After E3 2005, when Sony chose to showcase the PS3’s power with use of CG, there were a lot of skeptics about what the PS3 could do graphically when compared to the competition. Since then, with the releases of Metal Gear Solid 4, KillZone 2, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and God of War III, the PS3 has raised the graphic bar beyond CG levels in some cases.
Now PS3 programmer Michael Glück is confident that Crysis 2 will not only match what previous games achieved graphically on the system but will exceed them as well.
“With each generation of game titles on PS3, usually every 2 years, the games improve significantly in its quality, mostly showing off in graphics,” Glück told Play Magazine. “I think with Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar being set at a very high level that games will struggle to excel. We’re aiming to set a whole new benchmark with that game for all PS3 games. With Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar set at a high level that games will struggle to exceed”
Eye candy is nice but developers need to remember that good graphics don’t necessarily make a good game. Uncharted 2 and God of War III also have the game play elements to accommodate the high end graphics.
With the market currently inundated with FPS, Crysis 2 will need more than graphics to help it stand out in the crowd.
