Crytek: “Crysis 2 To Be Visually Unbeatable On PS3” | PS3Blog.net

After E3 2005, when Sony chose to showcase the PS3’s power with use of CG, there were a lot of skeptics about what the PS3 could do graphically when compared to the competition. Since then, with the releases of Metal Gear Solid 4, KillZone 2, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and God of War III, the PS3 has raised the graphic bar beyond CG levels in some cases.

Now PS3 programmer Michael Glück is confident that Crysis 2 will not only match what previous games achieved graphically on the system but will exceed them as well.

“With each generation of game titles on PS3, usually every 2 years, the games improve significantly in its quality, mostly showing off in graphics,” Glück told Play Magazine. “I think with Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar being set at a very high level that games will struggle to excel. We’re aiming to set a whole new benchmark with that game for all PS3 games. With Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar set at a high level that games will struggle to exceed”

Eye candy is nice but developers need to remember that good graphics don’t necessarily make a good game. Uncharted 2 and God of War III also have the game play elements to accommodate the high end graphics.

With the market currently inundated with FPS, Crysis 2 will need more than graphics to help it stand out in the crowd.

Dam right Crysis 2 will be the best lookin game on ps3. I mean it was the best lookin game on pc so why wouldnt it be on consoles. Im just want to see how the gameplay is gonna be. I also think it will look better on ps3 than 360 just do to superior tech under da hood. None the less Crysis 2 will be awsome.

I hope there’s an online component to the game. It looks fantastic. I just hope it has a good shooter feel.

  • I thought Crysis was just a game/demo for the crysis graphic engine. Much like GEars of War/Unreal engine 3. If Crytek licenses this engine for general use on the PS3 that would be great news. You can never have enough gaming engines. I’m not sure if GOW3 or Uncharted licence out their gaming engines.

  • Just read Free Radical of Haze and (more importantly) Timesplitters fame are making the multiplayer for this.

    No way.

Also, dev team quality is more important than compute power for overall visuals and game quality.

Which is why the best PS3 games generally look and play better than the best PC games, despite the fact that workstation class PCs are an order of magnitude more powerful than the PS3.

  • For me graphics is like 70-80% of what makes a great game. It should be visually stunning. Take for example Dante’s Inferno… I like the storyline and gameplay, but graphics just don’t cut it for me.

Finally someone agrees with me. Graphics mean almost everything in a video game. Especially with the 360 and ps3. I say that because with the ps3 and 360 there should be no reason on why game should suffer in the graphics department at all. Games like Last Rebellion and almost evry 360 game besides AAA or AA shouldnt even be allowed to release. Sometimes ill be like thisis suppose to be a ps3 game when it looks lke a ps2 game WTF. So yes graphics do mean eveything in a nex-gen video game.

Killzone 2 has the best so far i think anyway, it also had back up for its story line, but the multiplayer didn’t last long. Also they have to remeber this isn’t just for the ps3 so the have more work to do than lets say naughty dog with u2. We’ll see later on down the road when is the release for this? or is it still TBA?

  • I don’t think anybody would dispute the fact that the PS3 has the best graphics above all machines. with the exception the PC. because unlike the PS3 you can put a new graphics card in your computer and play games well beyond the PS3. So if your all about graphics then your all about the PC. Other wise Crysis 2 will be one game that will make you go out and by anew graphics card.

As you said, graphics are not the end all and too many people over-exaggerate the importance.

I want good gameplay, graphics, and story-lines….with interesting things to do

If the game is boring and the story sucks, i wont care about the graphics

  • JCP

I agree, there’s no point in having a game which just looks spectacular. It needs to have a decent storyline & good game play for me to want to play it and keep playing it.

  • KZ3!!!

i think killzone 3 will be close, same or even better then crysis 2 (on the ps3) it will also have gameplay and the storyline to go with that!! it already looks better then KZ2 and the game is in alpha stage so what will the game look like when it comes out??? awesomeness!!! in graphics!! and it would probs beat crysis 2 on the pc IF… KZ3 was on the pc. but i will get both games.
