It appears that Sony has started to offer up protection plans for the PS3, PSP and PSP Go. These plans extend the manufacturer warranties one or two years, and there is also a plan for user-fault accidental damage of a PSP system as well.
You can extend these warranties as long as you’re still under the original 1-year warranty. As far as the damage deal goes, you must purchase that within 30 days of purchase of the PSP. Here are pricing details:
- PS3 – 1-year extension ($44.99) or 2-year extension ($59.99)
- PSP – 1-year extension ($29.99) or 2-year extension ($39.99)
- PSP Accidental Damage – 1-year ($39.99) or 2-year ($49.99)
The prices look like they are a pretty penny, but are actually pretty normal for Extended Service Plans. Using these are kind of a gamble, though, as you might purchase it, but never have to use it, or you could skip on getting the service plan and then when something does happen, you’re screwed.
If you’re interested in taking Sony up on this offer, you can call 1-866-716-7669, or, when it’s available, check the website (it will be up later today). Currently, only SCEA offers these plans.

Mmm, pricing seems to be at a good enough range. I already got an extended two year replacement program when I bought my Slim, so I’m set.

The prices seem reasonable, esp. two year plans.

It gives a real vote of confidence as to the reliability of the hardware doesn’t it?

Didn’t the 360 only have a 90 day warranty when it came out? I know my PS3 had a year
on a side note, i still own my launch 60gb PS3 and i’ve played the hell out of it….never had one problem. These warranties are simply for the people who don’t want the hassle incase something does happen later.

I bought a plan in the UK with retailer for my launch 60gb PS3 for £40.00 and that lasts 3 years, luckily I did as it has broken on me twice now…

yeah most retailers out here have such plans as well, but at least this one is official, so no middle men possible messing it up lol

Will be getting an extra 3 years for $75, available where I am straight from Sony, since my 80GB died hope the slim will last longer but you never know.
