God of War: Ghost of Sparta Coming to PSP

God of War: Ghost of Sparta has been announced for the PSP so you can look forward to hacking off more limbs and ripping eye balls out on the tube/bus/plane. Ghost of Sparta will be a prequel to GOW II and III taking place after GOW I and will explain more of Kratos’ past. Once again the PSP GOW game is being made by Ready At Dawn Studios, in close collaboration with SCEA’s Santa Monica Studio who made the PS2 and PS3 entries into the series.

More screenshots and info after the jump.

The story this time;

As for the storyline, this new adventure will serve as a prequel of sorts, picking up where God of War left off. Ghost of Sparta tells the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods — a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family.

The official website for the game can be found at http://www.godofwar.com/spartansstandtall/ So yes, this was what all the mystery was about. I quite enjoyed Chains of Olympus although i found some of the powers to be a bit lacklustre and the controls took a little getting used to. I’m hoping they adopt III’s method of handling the magic and weapons to allow a bit of easier control. Here’s the rest of the screens;

    Cool I’ll get some use out of my PSP. Wonder if there will be any GoW3 inter-action like resistance and some other games have.

    Man i know its God of War and all but im highly disappointed. All the mystery for a psp game. Wow….im really shocked. Sony give us an EXCELLENT game in GoW3 for ps3 and know they wanna do another GoW for psp. Im speechless i think this is an terrible move by Sony. Now dnt get me wrong the first GoW game for psp was great but i know me personally i dnt want another GoW game for a washed up system. Sony jus needs to stick with ps3 from now on. I cant speak for everyone but to me im not that excited.

    The PSP titles are not made by Ready At Dawn Studios leaving the PS3 studio SCEA Santa Monica free to make the next PS3 entry so I wouldn’t be too disappointed.

    The game is looking pretty impressive graphically for a PSP game.

    So I take it all the levels they left out of the other games will end up here. Some of those screenshots look like Atlantis to me, could be interesting to see where they take it.

    Sony would be wise to allow this game to play directly on a PS3 as Konami has hinted could be the case for Peace Walker. Hopefully Sony decides to release Chains of Olympus like this as well.

    You know what? Sony should just allow ALL PSP games to be played on a PS3 and that way they’d have my $150 in purchases the very next day they announce it.

    @EdEN: Oh man, if they did that, PSP game and console purchases would skyrocket!

    I’m waiting for E3 before purchasing a single Minis game since I have a feeling that Sony will announce their PSN Membership price and details at their conference “half-time”. I want the one that includes “free” access to all PSX and Minis games as well as a discount on PSN purchases and automatic downloads and updates. $69.99 was the price feautured on the survey and for that you could get 10 PSX games so the price is very competitive and would be a great way to spend 70 bucks.

    Heard about the game, and really with SCEA you can’t go wrong. I am sure the game is going to be awesome and as long as I can get some more God of War I am happy :P
