Finally what I've been preaching for YEARS is coming true... The Japanese have started to make their games "STALE". There are only so many J-RPG's that people can take. There is VERY VERY little innovation going on in terms of them. I mean come on, how many Final Fantasy's are there going to be? Each one just about the same as the one before, except for graphical enhancements.

The only thing that is going to fix this is for them to branch out, get away from the strict RPG format that they follow, get away from the "Invisible Hallway" 3rd person games. They need to really try something like Fallout:New Vegas mixed with Just Cause 2, with a dash of Red Dead Redemption thrown in, and served with a side of Heavy Rain to even stay relevent nowadays.

Oly1Kenobi: LOL aren’t Japanese oriental?

I thought so, but according to Wordnet (http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=oriental):

- a member of an Oriental race; the term is regarded as offensive by Asians (especially by Asian Americans).

So it should be better just to modify it...

It seems that the old, established Japanese studios like Capcom and Konami and Square are still holding their own; probably better than similarly aged Western studios.

But there are so few younger up and coming Japanese studios while the West is creating so many. Why is that?

It must be some sort of cultural reason like a fear of risk.
