EA: PS3 “On Fire” Thanks to SLIM and Kevin Butler

Since what some may consider the relaunch of the PS3 with the introduction of the SLIM, some developers have become enthusiastic about Sony’s black box. Last week at E3, EA announced special edition versions of their upcoming Dead Space and Metal of Honor games that will be only available on the PS3 and demonstrated many of their games on the system.

Despite that Electronic Arts COO John Schappert told IGN not to “read too much into what we’re showing the demos on, but I will tell you, in the marketplace, the PlayStation 3 is doing incredibly well.”

“Since Sony changed the PS3 form factor, rolled out the Kevin Butler marketing campaign, and launched some great content, the box is on fire,” he said. “Now the problem is you haven’t been able to find it at retail, it’s been out of stock. But I think they’ll fix that soon.” “We have high hopes on the PlayStation 3 this year. Again, we like them all, but PlayStation 3 is doing very strong right now,” he added.

With long time XBox only supports( and PS3 critics ) like former Team Ninja Tomonobu Itagaki and Gabe Newell of Valve finally making games for the system it looks like publishers are finally warming up to the system.

I don’t think it is that developers are warming up to the system, I think it is money talks.

Any developer that didn’t have a game set for release on PS3 won’t have one ready until august 2011 at the earliest. It’s always great to see more support for the console(s) we own but so far nothing has changed in the land of Sony. And it sure didn’t change after their awful (except for Kevin Butler ) press conference.
