Final Fantasy XIV Dated |

[tab:FFXIV Release date/subscription fees]

Square Enix has announced the released date for their upcoming mmorpg Final Fantasy XIV.

First the bad news for PS3 fans: FFXIV won’t be hitting the PS3 before March 2011. 🙁  This is a bit dissappointing after Square Enix had stated in the past how their plans were for a simultaneous release of both the PS3 and PC versions. But it looks like that wasn’t meant to be.

On to the good news: The PC version FFXIV will be releasing this September 30th, worldwide, with a Collector’s Edition planned that’ll hit European retailers on September 22nd. No news if the CE is just EU only.

Gamers can expect to pay a monthly subscription fee of $12.99/£8.99/€12.99, and an extra  $3.00/£2.10/€3.00 per month  for any additional characters. This is similar to how things worked in FFXI but in that game the extra characters were only priced at $1. Also unlike FFXI there will be a maximum of eight characters allowed on one account.

Details on pricing for the PS3 version will be revealed later.

o.o what happened to it being a free game? will it be a monthly payment on hte ps3 as well?

    • Don’t know yet Lan, but I doubt it. It’s an mmo for the PC as well so there was no chance of it being ftp. 🙁

    • WTF, this sucks. I was really hoping to get it on the PS3 when it launched cause the comp I have is far from a gaming comp. I guess I’m going to have to do some quick upgrades before then, if that will even help my poor Dell.
I just wonder if the differance between the two systems is going to be as great this time. The PC version of FFXI looked way better than the PS2 version. The PS2 version looked like doodoo.
Even though this does suck, I’m still excited that its coming out this September. I rather get it September than to have to wait.

    • September 30th! W0ot! I can’t wait!

And @Lan, FFXIV was always going to be subsription based, just like it’s predecessor, FFXI.

Maximum 8 characters per account is silly and charging per character is silly… SE needs to change their ways a bit, stop being so stubborn…

And the CE better be available in NA! ><
