		<description>The Netflix from the XMB PS3 application requires the Microsoft Playready DRM and HTML5;  where did Sony get the code?  I believe from the Chrome Web browser Webkit which includes Silverlight and HTML5. 
 
Again, this is another strong indication that Chrome is coming to the PS3 and the Chrome Webkit will be in the PS3 and at least parts will be active/being used by October when Netflix releases their application.    
 
One more point: Flash, HTML5, Javascript, in fact all browsers, will be going through a process of upgrades and bug fixes as HTML5 is not finished.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5  
 
The point is Google will be providing these updates in a format that SONY can use to update all their platforms with the same code.</description>

So Google, Sony, Facebook and Apple setup stores to sell applications that will work on every hardware platform, there hasn&#039;t been such a large market for software EVER.   
 
A killer application for the PS3 with 40 million PS3s in users hands by Christmas and if only half of them buy it at $15 each...you do the math.  Average 3 sales per PS3 in the next 6 months and then there are other platforms. 
 
So in the next 6 months just for the PS3 Sony could make $300+ million dollars just by releasing a new web browser, allowing third party software and selling same through a PSN store.  The application would also work on Sony Google TVs and Blu-Ray players. 
 
So Sony gets the browser free from Google and needs to spend about $200K for  programmers to port it to the PS3 and makes a half billion dollars in the next year.  This provided they get everything in place at the same time or before Apple, Google and Facebook start selling applications.   
 
And this explains the rumored rush for October release, Google store open by October,  Facebook dropping support for older browsers and sites that no longer work with the PS3 browser.  Pressure from all sides for everyone to upgrade to the new browsers that all have multiple cross platform languages that create one huge market for everyone. 
 
Where do they get the applications to sell in the stores...From us.  These upper level languages are easier to write with than ever before.  Witness 70,000 Android applications that will work on every platform with an android OS no matter what CPU.  Google has a free program that builds Android apps that is easy enough for a novice to use.   
 
Will most of these programs be garbage ,YES and this is why companies like SONY selling applications through the PSN store can keep a large share of the market by only selling quality programs or games.</description>

Java: is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems (which is now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems&#039; Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object modeland fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode (class file) that can run on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM) regardless ofcomputer architecture. Silverlight 4 adds a ton of new features, like webcam, microphone, and printing, to enable you to create incredible applications.  
 
And if Sony is porting the Chrome browser as the upgraded Web browser for the PS3 then the Android OS and Language will be available for the PS3.
 
Android: The Android operating system software stack consists of Java applications running on a Java based object oriented application framework on top of Java core libraries running on a Dalvik virtual machine featuring JIT compilation. Libraries written in C include the surface manager, OpenCore[14] media framework, SQLite relational database management system, OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics API, WebKit layout engine, SGL graphics engine, SSL, andBionic libc. The Android operating system consists of 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C, 2.1 million lines of Java, and 1.75 million lines of C++.[15]
 
The above (Java, Javascript, Flash and Silverlight) will be in the Android Webkit as C++ that is compiled on the PS3 in native machine code and can be used/called by any application running on the PS3.  All the above are also evolving languages that will need an update scheme which with Google&#039;s Android would be supplied by Google.
 
Also mentioned above as being included in Android as C++ routines are windows management routines.  The concept of multiple re-sizable windows that we take for granted in PC, Mac and other platforms is missing on the PS3.  The Proof of concept with the &quot;Move&quot; controller is telling.  Without a mouse, re-sizable windows are clumsy....with the &quot;Move&quot; controller as an air-mouse re-sizable windows are not only possible but necessary for a New browser that supports Flash, Java, Silverlight and Javascript windows (they require WINDOWS support). 
 
This might be the rumored PS3 XMB redesign....windows.  EDIT: NOT Microsoft Windows but generic windows, looks similar to but is not MS Windows. 
 
If Google Chrome is coming to the PS3, the routines to create and manage Windows would be in Android as C++ routines.  That Google already has routines to sand box processes like Javascript might be used in these multiple windows.   
 
BIG POINTS:
 
1) ALL the languages mentioned above can be used to create Games and applications that are device/hardware independent.
2) All platforms supporting the new WEB browser standards have the ability to run the above games and applications
3) Everyone appears to be creating Stores to sell the above applications  
4) the New Web browser also supports WEB games and Cloud computing applications which can generate revenue
5) Everyone is rushing to have WEB Stores to sell these applications by October 
 
There is money to be made.  Sony is a hardware company and considering the complexity of New Web browsers, will need to either contract out development of a new browser or port the FREE and OPEN SOURCE Google Chrome.</description>
