Netflix Disc Free App on PS3 LIVE

So a couple of minutes ago I received an e-mail that Netflix on the PS3 has gone disc-less.

As you can tell from my high-tech photo, I’m not kidding. I am a little upset that they didn’t capitalize my first name, but I guess it’s something I will have to live with. If for some reason you go into the “What’s New” section and you can’t find the Netflix update, you can click the Netflix app from under Video and you will be able to update it that way. The update shouldn’t take very long as it was only 19MB’s.

As you recall though last week I posted a video of the news that the Netflix app was coming this week. You can find it here if you missed it. Now it’s cool that we have Netflix on our PS3′s disc free and all but, honestly I like the app they showed last week better. It was just a little more organized compared to the one they released today.

If you try it, let me know your thoughts.

Movies load up so damned fast. An HD stream for me loaded in 5 seconds. Plus, rewinding and fast forwarding is a hell of a lot faster, too.

Also, it didn’t seem too disorganized. It’s the best version of a Netflix UI I’ve seen, with all the features, etc. It’s just a pretty big change from the previous version and just needs some getting used to.

The new Wii Netflix Channel, that came out today as well, does get a +1 for having a button for language/subtitles being more visible than the listed item on the PS3 version

Comparing it to the one in the video that came out last week I think it could have been better.

I’m going to call your bluff there. No way it looks the same unless we are looking at 2 different versions and I highly doubt they rolled out 2.

Need the .pkg link for JB users such as myself.
I’d pay for Netflix if I got the pkg, don’t care if anyone bashes me for being a JB user.

I live outside the US. With the disc based solution I used to be able to stream netflix using a proxy I have in the US. I just installed new netflix app and now I cannot access Netflix, apparently they are now doing some new geo-location ala Hulu.
I am going to setup a VPN for my router to get around this, but it is still a pain, I used to be happy with proxy on PS3 and good to go.

    Anyone else got this?

do I need to make a video Luke? and prove your ass wrong? :P I’ll have to rewatch the video on here so I know where exactly he went, but mine looks exactly how he showed it.

And in case you’re talking about the big vertical scrolling list, that comes up when you go to “See All” on a given list (such as genre, new movies, etc).

    EDIT:
They must have changed it after this morning, because my version was exactly like the video when I installed it at around 7AM or so, but I just went on, and now its completely different

EDIT2: Although the vertical scrolling list would have been nice to keep, the updated UI isn’t that bad. It’s nice that they have the “More like *selected title*” list under the movie, but I think that would have been better shown after you go to the title screen.

It’s a lot easier looking for specific genres now, though.

Ok guys, i’m with yah, i used the app earlier yesterday morning, and it certainly was like the video version, with the tabs/selections on the left hand side. Now it’s to this big icon mode. I liked the earlier one, seemed cleaner, but the version thats now running starts playing the selection as soon as you select it. So i guess it’s good as well. There certainly was a change to the app at some point yesterday.
