On Thursday, December 9th, thatgamecompany’s upcoming new PSN title, Journey, was demonstrated at Sony’s annual December showcase in New York. Journey’s designer Jenova Chan was also on hand at the event and shared new information about the game, including it’s unique multiplayer aspect.
“We can work together or I can ignore him,” Chan said. The multiplayer experience in Journey is automatic and designed to be free of the sort of annoyances that keep much of the mainstream gaming public from playing online, he explained.
“There are no lobbies, and no competition,” he said. “And I don’t have to play with anyone else if I don’t want to. But if I do, then solving puzzles can go much faster—especially if the other player is a veteran. I can share his resources to do things I otherwise wouldn’t be able to do yet.”
Other tidbits about Journey were also revealed. For instance, collecting loose pieces of cloth in the game will increase the length or your character’s cape and walking past certain objects in the sand will cause them to light up. Journey is set to a release sometime next year and like theatgamecompany’s previous works it’s sure to be a game like no other.
