Mass Effect 3 Engine Being Used For The PS3 Version of Mass Effect 2

New details about the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 are emerging as the series’ first PlayStation outing grows closer. Jesse Houston, producer of the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2,revealed during a recent Bioware podcast that the port uses the Mass Effect 3 engine.

We’ve actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and use that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content and the story and all the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put them in the Mass Effect 3 engine. And that‘s what we are actually delivering. Examiner

Also since Microsoft owns the publishing rights to the first game Bioware has found a creative way to keep PS3 owners in the loop as far as the Mass Effect story goes. An “interactive back story comic” provided by comic book publisher, Dark Horse, unfolds between the opening cutscene of Mass Effect 2 and the character customization screen. Your male or female Shepard recounts the story of the first Mass Effect against a backdrop of images. -IGN

I think it’s a really good idea to bring Mass Effect 2 w/ the Mass Effect 3 engine. It doesn’t only give you an old game which a lot of people might not even care to try at this point but it gives you Mass Effect 2 with todays technology which brings a lot of improvements to the game, as well as I think 6 additional hours of gameplay content.

I guess this is good an bad. I mean its good because the ps3 version will look better than the 360 version but then bad becauase if this is the engine for ME3 then its not really leaps and bounds over the ME2 engine. Yes i looked at the videos on ign.com and the ps3 is the clear winner without a doubt(finally somebody geta port right). I was hoping that ME3 will look 100x better than ME2 but i guess not. Now dnt get me wrong im not complaining at all, ill be getting this day one but i guess i was just hoping for more.

My 360 will be collecting alot of dust next yr.

Finally a developer doing something special with a PS3 port! Hopefully the new engine addresses some of the last engines weaknesses, thus providing us with the superior version of Mass Effect 2.

I thought the first one was well done, but I only rented it. Can’t wait to play this one, since I never rented it for the 360.

With that said, the game IS technically still new to PS3 users, and even though it originally released on the 360 almost a year ago, the PS3 obviously gets the superior version, so it works out for us in the end, especially since we will have a shorter wait time between ME2′s release and ME3

The interactive comic idea is great, as I’ve never played either of the previous games and always wanted to. I dunno though, I may just pick up the Windows version of ME1 on the cheap and play through it though…then grab ME2 and 3 for the PS3.

I was really hoping that they would do something to tell the story of the first game so that we wouldn’t be completely lost when playing the game. So now I’m releived and excited to know that they are going to tell the story at the beginning of the game.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this game and for once we won’t completely get the short end of the stick. I just hope that the game won’t have any unforseen problems when they transfer the data over to the new game engine.

WTF!? I just watched the video above and I really can’t wait now. The game looks amazing and we still get to make some decisions from the first game as we watch the story comic. Way to go Bioware, thats why they are one of the best Developers making games right now.

I would put RockStar as the best developers making games rite now but i see where ur going. I just hate Xbox fagboys talking shit about ps3 gettin it a yr later and not gettin mass effect as a full game at all. I say to them who cares. ME2 is gonna ****in rock on ps3. Im playin it on my 360 now but as soon as i get a new ps3 this will be the first game i will buy since i didnt play the first ME.

It is a good game franchise, too bad I have already played it on my PC. Prob won’t be getting mass effect 3 on ps3 as I want to use my save game to continue. I wonder if you can continue saves on the ps3.

This was pretty much the only reason i haven’t bought a PS3. Now i have to. Goodbye 360, hello playstation!
