Shocker, Xbox To Get Homefront DLC First!

So here’s another shooter that is going to release its DLC on the Xbox first, although at this point is anyone out there surprised? Seems like quite the trend we have going on here. First it was MW2, then Black Ops, and now Homefront. I am starting to wonder if I should get an Xbox just to get my shooting fix.

The game which is set to release on the 8th of March takes place in the year 2027. The world has changed, everything is falling apart. Buildings, economies and even nations. It didn’t take long for the Greater Korean Republic to come knocking. With the USA abandoned and all on its own, came and EMP blast that crippled what little hope that remained. After 12 months of punishment, the people have had enough, it’s time to take the country back.

In my honest opinion the game looks pretty cool. It’s kind of a cross between the latest Call of Duty games and Battlefield Bad Company 2. The only problem I have with this is that MS is whoring all the DLC for the FPS games. I don’t have a problem with them making the game exclusive, but don’t release a game and then just give one system everything first.

Besides the Xbox getting the DLC first, they are also getting an exclusive map which will never come to the PS3 or PC, there is even talk that they are getting a Beta exclusively.

It’s because Sony REFUSES to pay for exclusivity. Plain and simple. Being first to have something = more sales PERIOD. I have both systems and as a consumer in the new “Gimme it now” society, it really sways me to get it on the system that has it first.

I jumped to the 360 for Call of Duty Black Ops due to the horrid problems on the ps3, and I’m glad I did because I get DLC on feb 1st. I understand Sony says they’d rather focus on first party releases instead of 3rd party timed exclusives, but come on Sony, not every game people want to play is a Sony first party game. Come on Sony, step up and dish out some of the PS PLUS money you make to buy timed exclusives.

I would much rather have 20+ exclusives this year than some DLC free on a multiplatform game.

    @Dean147

Sorry to say but that’s not how the rest of gamers think. Sure there are a few who feel the same as you but I’d say 85% feel the opposite. We live in a “Gimme it now” instant based society… Text messages, emails, cell phones. Everything is instant now. Society doesn’t like to wait. If you are a Gamer and have both systems, who’s going to wait? A very large majority won’t.

Call of duty sales on the xbox far outsell the ps3. Many of those people have both systems. Why? Cause the xbox gets dlc first.

to be honest, that is hardly something i would call terrible.

for example i don’t mind getting Mass Effect 2 one year latter (we’re getting a more complete and better version of it). of course that’s a very extreme case.

but i don’t mind it at all, i find the ps3 quite satisfactory in fulfilling all my gaming needs.

  5. #5 by Luke on January 18th, 2011 [ 27382 Points ]

Don’t get me wrong, there are a hell of a lot of awesome games coming to the ps3 by a lot of developers that actually know how to do their job, but this whole thing with the xbox is annoying me.

makes me hate the xbox and ms even more!

Don’t drink the fanboy Kool Aid Luke. I did but now I’m cured. It’s about games and gaming. Sure I love my PS3, and I support Sony, but sometimes it comes down to the games and what you wanna play.

so derrick you care more about Call of Duty and Homefront than PS3 1st party titles lol

I guess they both have to do what they can to stay ahead.

  9. #9 by Dean147 on January 18th, 2011 [ 359 Points ]

Microsoft have no games left, sure they will announce new stuff at E3. but no games on the 360 can compare to what the ps3 can do with games like Uncharted, Killzone and the Last Guardian.

all microsoft have left is money, so they just buy exclusivity off publishers for DLC.

  10. #10 by Derrickgott007 on January 18th, 2011

    @Dean147

If those are the games I want to play then yes. If I want to play Call of Duty (a good working version) then I’ll play on the 360. Am I supposed to play Killzone 3 and pretend its call of duty and hope it feels my need? No. That’s blind fanboyism with elitist overtones. Can I play both systems and support the developers no matter what version I buy? Yes.

1st party titles alone can not save a system. Sorry but they can’t. You have to support the 3rd party developers.

  11. #11 by Dean147 on January 18th, 2011 [ 359 Points ]

buying exclusivity for DLC is not supporting 3rd party developers.
having 3rd party games on your systems for over 10 years is support. Sony work a lot with 3rd party companies like EA and Ubisoft.

and if you like COD that is fine, every one has their own opinions :)

Calling someone a Fanboy and saying crap like elitist overtones is uncalled for. Has nothing to do with that, I am just saying that I am getting sick and tired of DLC coming to those bitches first. GTA 4, MW2, Black Ops, and now Homefront.

I will also say this, if you want to spend $200 on a console just so you can play that game because it’s better is a joke. What a complete waste of cash, all your doing is supporting the douche bags that created that shitty game in the first place. It’s no ones fault but theirs if the game works great on 1 system but not the other.

  14. #14 by pedro on January 18th, 2011 [ 39949 Points ]

i don’t think that being a fanboy is really the case.

sure, both systems have cons and pros, but to many people the reality is having only one console, in those cases you have no other option.

that’s my case, for example. and don’t get me wrong, it’s not like i can’t buy a xbox, for example i invested more than U$ 1000,00 in games only last year, but i don’t see the point in buying another console just so i can have something faster. i hardly think that’s worth my money.

sure, it sucks we don’t get some DLC, Dead Money for Fallout:NV won’t be coming to the PS3 at all, but that’s not a good enough reason to get another console.

finally, i don’t think 1st party developed games are the answer either, but more and more titles are coming to all systems, i would say that most grand releases are available for the 360, ps3 and pc with exclusives being almost like a niche (and wii has many many more then any other system).

I don’t think exclusives are the only thing to take in consideration when buying a console, sure they’re important, but sometimes you have to make a choice and live with it.

    @Luke

Calm down man. Fanboyism is not a good thing. Just look at the amount of FIRST party developers that ALSO play the 360. Look at David Jaffe. He plays all 3 systems and is proud to admit it.

I used to be a fanboy, and looking back I made some douchey comments as being one. Now after owning both systems I realized I am a TRUE GAMER. I’ve also noticed that there are some things that Sony doesnt do well, but when I was a fanboy I never saw them. Now I do. And I WILL speak up hoping Sony takes notice and makes some changes, changes that their customers ask for.

If you just keep your head down blindly following them, they could lead you to slaughter and you’d never see it. It’s perfectly ok to look around and see what’s happening allowing you to have choices. Owning both systems gives me choices. One version sucks on one system but works on the other? I’ll buy it on the other.

Don’t be a sheep. Be your own leader.

And thanks for calling all 360 players bitches.. You confirmed my comment about blind fanboy elitism.

Calling all 360 gamers bitches confirms my blind fanboy elitist comment. I wonder if this comment will make it through or vanish like the last three I entered. Not cool if you’re removing my rebuttal to Lukes oddly agressive reply.

What Derrick is saying is true to a point.

The whole “Sony doesn’t buy exclusives” is a 3 year old quote from Sony from which there has been evidence (even if its assumed) that Sony has paid for some exclusivity on certain things.

We all know that MS flaunts their money and we all know that at E3, MS and Activision created a partnership of sorts to get a quick release of all downloadable content in the form of timed exclusivity. A post everytime this is done when they told us that they were going to do this a year ago is a little much though.

Anyways…as for what Derrick is saying….play the games you want regardless of system and he is correct. As far as blaming Sony, I disagree. I mean at what point does this become extortion? “Ok Sony…MS paid us 50 million for time exclusivity…what can you pay to prevent us from giving this to them?”

As far as 1st party vs 3rd party. There is no solid rule. Wii does just fine with its first party lineup and lacking 3rd party shovelware.

  17. #17 by Dean147 on January 18th, 2011 [ 359 Points ]

lol derrick I think you are misunderstanding ppl. nobody here is a fanboy, having a preference towards one console is not fanboyism.

and we are not blind to Sonys faults, I could spend all day talking about stupid mistakes theyve made.

I play and own all consoles and a PC and like each one for their reasons. however ultimately the PS3 has more games that I like, so therefore that is my preference. I also like trophies, the psn and the better media functionality it offers. And I’m not sure why you are talking in capitals sometimes, just makes you look immature.

“Don’t be a sheep. Be your own leader.” is that why you got both systems. So you can support a developer for creating crappy ports?

Sorry that I don’t want to throw money out left and right. I want one system and be able to play games on it and the DLC. Not because someone keeps throwing money at the developers and they just keep snatching it up.

Nothing to do with being a Fanboy.

Calling another system “Bitches” is fanboyism. We’ve all been guilty of it at one time or another..even me. Luke has serious Fanboyitis. The bitches comment proved it. His anger proved it.

I own both systems because my kids play on xbox and they live in another state, so in order to play online with my kids I got an xbox. Plus as a true gamer I realized I was cutting myself off from some cool games by only favoring one system. So I got a 360 and as a gamer I am glad I did. I work hard for my money and gaming is a hobby and a passion of mine so I treated myself to a 360.

Paid exclusivity is a marking tactic, and it works. Hand over fist they make more sales by doing exclusivity arrangements then anything else.

lol it’s ok Luke. I understand what you said haha. And Derrick I think you shouldn’t really judge people on their opinions and let everyone have their own.

For example I personally hate Call of Duty, but I am not going to “attack” you because you like the game. Dont call Luke a fanboy just because of his opinions.

You can justify your own opinions because they are your own, you should probably let everyone else have that privilege too :)

anyway. It really says something that a topic like this has sparked so many peoples opinions. And that is a good thing, it shows that we are gamers, and passionate ones.

    Happy Gaming guys :D

Call of Duty Black Ops works on the 360. It was damn near unplayable on the PS3. Just ask any other PS3BLOG.NET member who has it on 360. It just works. Blackstaffer got it for 360. I got it for 360 after living with the nightmare that was CODBLOPS on PS3. I was a 2nd level prestiege on PS3 and the game was unplayable. So i got the 360 version and its just smoother, no slowdown, no lag problems like the ps3 version.

As for the “Gimme it now” society we live in, just look around. Everyone is getting more and more impatient. And for the Sheep to Slaughter comment, look at the PSN. People have been begging for Cross Game Chat since day one. Sony after 5 years still hasnt given it out yet. I got tired of waiting. I looked around and saw that there was another system that gave me what I wanted.

What I’m saying is too many people blindly follow a brand without looking around and seeing options. Remember the guy who got the Zune tattoo? Bet he feels great about that.

All I’m saying guys is we’re gamers. Like Kevin Butler said “We may game on different systems, but we all pray to one god and that god is Gaming” Stop with the Fanboyism. We dont need a post everytime the 360 gets exclusivity. That’s dividing gamers too much. Just game.

  24. #24 by Dean147 on January 18th, 2011 [ 359 Points ]

well in terms of cross game chat, I don’t think its possible. The PS3 cant do it the way it is currently programmed. So its not Sonys fault that they didnt include that feature after people asking for it.

and if all you want is Call of Duty then go for the Xbox 360, hell I will even admit that. Sony would even admit that.

also it’s not Sonys fault that Black Ops doesn’t run well on PS3. It’s Activisions fault

Activision pushed for that game to be released and didn’t allow time for Treyarch to pollish the PS3 version in beta. They would rather sell millions of that game on day 1 than delay it.

It’s just the publishers, all they want is money.

i partially agree with you, but i’m not sure if you’re understanding what i have to say.

i agree somethings like chat, some games playing better and even getting better (or faster) dlc on the 360 is a very big deal.

but i wouldn’t put aside the fact you pay for playing online, or having many dvds just for one game.

all consoles are made of different characteristics, but in the end, you’ll prefer one system over another, it’s not fanboyism it’s just human behavior.

what i think you’re doing is being to partial to the CoD case, but, for example, if you were a assassins creed fan you’d be happy that you got extra content with your ps3 game (and also better graphics for that matter).

Dean147: also it’s not Sonys fault that Black Ops doesn’t run well on PS3. that’s why we keep getting bugged games…

  26. #26 by Eddie L. Headley on January 18th, 2011 [ 44542 Points ]

things are getting a tad out of hand and off topic here.

What we see above is the result of a contractual agreement between two companies. No amount of money or strategy changes would stop this. A contract is a contract. Verbal, written, etc.

As far as the sub par Black Ops on the PS3, there is only two groups you can blame…Activision and Treyarch. No amount of money or strategy change from another company would change the result of this game.

If this is your pinnacle of gaming (and its sales shows that it is for many) then you are better off playing it on another system but it is far from unplayable…annoying yes…unplayable..no.

And even though I fully believe that Sony’s first party line-up far exceeds the fun factor of Black Ops….all of those games put together will have a hard time outselling Black Ops alone.

COD: Black Ops works on ps3 fine if you ask me but it was clearly favorited by activision. Meaning microsoft put money in their pocket. And obviously they’re(Microsoft) are going to have more timed exclusives because of the money the make each month. I believe it’s up to 10$ a month. Do the math over 2million people on Black ops alone, $20,000,000 thats a lot of money to toss around for one specific genera of gaming (FPS). I’ll play a shitty FPS because I know I’ll have a kick ass 1st party gaming coming out regularly. And if sony did toss money at anyone I’d bet it on EA for Battlefield.

Yeah the fanboy thing is kind of silly. I know people have their preference, but they shouldn’t bash a console they haven’t owned. I am fortunate enough to own both. And I bought all my CoDs for the PS3. But after the MW2 exclusivity, I got Black OPs for the Xbox as well. I think it is a smart tactic on Microsoft’s part to pay up that way. If you look on VGChartz, they PS3 has been out selling the Xbox. Last week it was 100k sold that week compared to the Xbox 70k. So it will keep them afloat for a while. I can see how frustrating it can be if you only have one of the consoles. It would be great if the Devs would make each version separately from the ground up and stop porting inferior versions. But it’s starting to look like the Xbox version of Homefront will be the one to get. I just hope it runs smooth with 32 players including air and land vehicles. The vids show a lot of structures. Bad company has less players and vehicles and Halo has less structures and players as well. I may give it a couple days before picking up a copy.
