Infinity Ward Security Meeting on PS3 Hacking

Infinity Ward just finished a security meeting that entails the hacks displayed on the PS3 version of games for both hacked and non-hacked consoles. Here is what FourZeroTwo had to say:

I just left a security meeting with the coders here at Infinity Ward where we discussed a lot of solutions. I feel good about the meeting, but of course I can’t go into detail on the possible solutions we discussed as we don’t want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further.

Once I have more information, I will post it here.

The key factor I want you to know is, that while any update takes time, we are looking to make the process as quick as possible and nothing is being left unattended.

Our main focus right now is on:

1) Preventing hackers from affecting legitimate players.
2) Addressing users who have already been affected.

He also stated that some of the problems need to be reported to Sony as well, so if you see someone hacking their way to victory, be sure to report them to Sony using this link.

I hope hackers get a system Mac ID ban. Nothing better than a useless Ps3 to stop the hacking.

    Glad devs are finding solutions.

So they finally going to make the mw2 save files copy protected? gg Easy fix lazy they are. I agree hackers need a perm ban.

When you say banning hackers you mean blocking their consoles?

Is that possible? That sounds fair if you’d ask me.

Weren’t there cheaters before the hackers? They’re not addressing the people who take advantage of the game’s exploits?

Pedro, every console has a MAC ID that is unique to each console. Each time you log into the PSN it checks your Mac ID against whats on file. Some downloadable games use this, such as warhawk. If they ban your MAC ID what happens is your PS3 can never go online on the PSN. What you effectively have then is a ps3 that only plays offline games.

    @BattleFace

There is a report features in most games. You can report people for obvious cheating. Bad thing is, it doesnt work UNLESS people use it. I report people all the time for cheating in black ops. If they are lagging all over I report them for cheating because it may be a lag switch and if they go 22-0 really fast I’ll watch my kill cam from them and if it’s obvious they’re using AIMBOT then they get a report for cheating.

As far as I’m concerned they may brick every hacked PS3 and ban the PSN account and of course VISA details that are attached to that particular user.

Games nowadays need updates, patches and if you really want to enjoy the full experience you’ll need to shell out for the DLC as well.

I understand that there are people that are interested in writing applications for the platform. These aren’t necessarily games, but general applications as well. Some ideas might be good, others … well let’s just say that the same goes for the games that are released on PS3, some are really crap, some are real gems and a lot of them are in between.

If someone really has a good idea for an application or game, they should do it the legit way. And as always, one can start out on another platform to do the prototyping and then when all legal stuff is arranged, you can go to the audiences and apply for your app to be granted PS3 stardom.

You can even post your alpha on several homebrew websites just to show Sony how much interest there is for your greatest idea ever.

In my eyes there is not ONE reason to hack a console machine.

just my two… -though pretty heavy perhaps- cents

and then they sell it and buy a new one.. screwing over the new buyer
