***Warning, before reading, this situation could detail some very minor spoilers. Nothing story driven, just a specific scenario late in Chapter 6.***
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dead Space 1, but I understood its appeal and respected it enough to give the predecessor a go. Much to my surprise I was having more fun with this sequel than I did with the original. However my fun turns to disappointment after reaching a certain point in Chapter 6.
There is a certain area in a zero gravity room that the entrance you need to take is cast in uncontrollable flames. There are 3 oxygen machines pumping out air that are keeping the flame alive. Your job is to remove the battery cores from the machines so that the oxygen is depleted and the flames extinguished only upon my arrival, all 3 battery cores were already missing.
I wasn’t exactly sure what needed to be done here and I thought nothing of it. This was a fairly large room and I figured I just needed to explore some more. Upon exploring I found some items such as a precious power core so I went back to the previous save point right outside of the door and saved my game. This was my mistake. Saving the game saved the glitch. No battery cores will pop up for me to remove from the oxygen machines which means I can’t put out the flames. The only way around this is to start the game over completely.
To their defense…its my fault for only having one game save. As an RPG fan I understand the added benefit of saving multiple times in multiple places, but for linear shooters, I’ve never seen the purpose of doing that…well that is until now.
Kotaku reports that with official firmware v.3.60, Sony will enable online storage of game saves. (Finally an OFW update that provides a new feature set!) This frees up hard drive space, of course (though not much in principle), but the more exciting ramification of this is that one will be able to download one’s game saves to other consoles or even to the same console in case of hard drive failure.
Two caveats: This service will only be available to PS+ members, and Sony will allow game developers to opt out of the cloud system for their titles. I wonder how this feature will treat games with locked game saves. Will they be grandfathered in to the pool of those who opt out?
Another week and another Recap. This is 3 weeks in a row this has been on time! I love how everything is easier for me to compile for the week now haha. Anyway, this was a busy week. We had a total of 32 main posts and 22 QuickNews. Haven’t seen that much activity in both fronts at the same time for a while.
Biggest news this week was, of course, Sony’s PSP2 unveiling event (I don’t like to use NGP). If you haven’t seen anything on it yet, I suggest watching the conference video. Uncharted and Little Deviants had some awesome examples of the control systems available on the device.
There was a big number of new trailers and videos posted for upcoming games, as well as a fan-made Fallout-themed short. We have also had announcements of games coming to PSN, as well as demos and such, which are pretty standard news fare. Still, 2011 is proving to be quite eventful.

Nothing new this week, really. Although there is one thing that has been done for those of you who like to read up on the store updates and want to be sent notifications when they go up. If this pertains to you, you can follow those by subscribing to the RSS feed on FeedBurner.
First off, the winner for the Two Worlds II contest has been chosen. Congratulations to Kane112!
We also have another giveaway underway. This one is for a collectible Bulletstorm Nutcracker. Be sure to check that out here!

Although we don’t have any Game Nights currently planned, Gophermods’ RSX reballing service should be available this Tuesday. This means I should have my PS3 fixed early next month, which, in turn, means we’ll likely also have the GT5 tournament sometime next month as well (the one that was originally scheduled for December 26th). Details on that will be posted again when I get my console back, so keep an eye out for that ;).

Yeah, this was kind of a dumb question to ask, but I’ve seen many comments of people who believe that exclusive titles are hurting the industry. I think what would have been a better question was whether or not third party exclusives do, so that was an ‘oopsie’ on my part, as differentiating third party exclusives from first party could have changed the results.
With the recent unveiling of the PSP2/NGP, this poll question was going to be kind of an obvious choice. Will you be picking up the new handheld?
