Cloud Game Saves
Posted by premiersoupir in Firmware, Firmware Updates, PlayStation Plus, QuickNews, Rumors on January 30th, 2011
Kotaku reports that with official firmware v.3.60, Sony will enable online storage of game saves. (Finally an OFW update that provides a new feature set!) This frees up hard drive space, of course (though not much in principle), but the more exciting ramification of this is that one will be able to download one’s game saves to other consoles or even to the same console in case of hard drive failure.
Two caveats: This service will only be available to PS+ members, and Sony will allow game developers to opt out of the cloud system for their titles. I wonder how this feature will treat games with locked game saves. Will they be grandfathered in to the pool of those who opt out?
The Weekly Recap (January 23rd-29th)
Posted by Jay in Poll, Weekly Recap on January 30th, 2011

Another week and another Recap. This is 3 weeks in a row this has been on time! I love how everything is easier for me to compile for the week now haha. Anyway, this was a busy week. We had a total of 32 main posts and 22 QuickNews. Haven’t seen that much activity in both fronts at the same time for a while.
Biggest news this week was, of course, Sony’s PSP2 unveiling event (I don’t like to use NGP). If you haven’t seen anything on it yet, I suggest watching the conference video. Uncharted and Little Deviants had some awesome examples of the control systems available on the device.
There was a big number of new trailers and videos posted for upcoming games, as well as a fan-made Fallout-themed short. We have also had announcements of games coming to PSN, as well as demos and such, which are pretty standard news fare. Still, 2011 is proving to be quite eventful.

Nothing new this week, really. Although there is one thing that has been done for those of you who like to read up on the store updates and want to be sent notifications when they go up. If this pertains to you, you can follow those by subscribing to the RSS feed on FeedBurner.

First off, the winner for the Two Worlds II contest has been chosen. Congratulations to Kane112!
We also have another giveaway underway. This one is for a collectible Bulletstorm Nutcracker. Be sure to check that out here!

Although we don’t have any Game Nights currently planned, Gophermods’ RSX reballing service should be available this Tuesday. This means I should have my PS3 fixed early next month, which, in turn, means we’ll likely also have the GT5 tournament sometime next month as well (the one that was originally scheduled for December 26th). Details on that will be posted again when I get my console back, so keep an eye out for that

Just Cause Game-Based Movie in the Works
kennygk on January 29th, 2011 4 Comments
Yeah, this was kind of a dumb question to ask, but I’ve seen many comments of people who believe that exclusive titles are hurting the industry. I think what would have been a better question was whether or not third party exclusives do, so that was an ‘oopsie’ on my part, as differentiating third party exclusives from first party could have changed the results.
With the recent unveiling of the PSP2/NGP, this poll question was going to be kind of an obvious choice. Will you be picking up the new handheld?

- Not interested in handhelds
- I'd rather get a 3DS
Hoard Review
Posted by Kane112 in Hoard, PS3 Reviews / Vita Reviews, PSN on January 30th, 2011

Hoard what to say… it’s simple and addicting with some action and strategy thrown in. You control a dragon and get to burn villages, steal gold, and kidnap princesses. How can it not be fun controlling a dragon and being the bad guy. And right now until 1/31 it’s on sale for $7.49 which is a steal for this wee gem.
Graphics:
The graphics are done well with some really nice detail going into the pieces on screen. The game is set to look like a board game with overhead camera and a wooden boarder around the playing area. The stage starts with the map falling down in tiles and sets up quite nicely. Every on the map is very detailed starting from the archers being able to make out the bow and arrows, to the individual houses in the villages. Though a drawback is that things are a bit small if you are not sitting close to your TV it can be hard to make some things out.
Just Cause Game-Based Movie in the Works
Posted by kennygk in Just Cause 2, Movies, PS3, QuickNews on January 29th, 2011
A movie based on the game series “Just Cause” is currently being produced by L+E Pictures’ Adrian Askarieh and Eric Eisner, and the script is being written by Michael Ross. Adrian Askarieh is known for producing Hitman and is currently working on the upcoming Kane and Lynch movie. In an interview by Eidos, they stated that the movie will be an origin story detailing Rico’s transformation into Scorpio, and it may even be filmed in 3D. There are no details available on when it will start shooting or who will star in the movie.
“We are using all the strong elements from the games to create a great “origin story” for Rico and how he transforms into the Scorpion character… The action we are going for almost demands the 3D treatment“
Watch the Entire Sony Event
Posted by Jay in Media, PlayStation Meeting on January 29th, 2011
Sony has hosted the entire meeting from Wednesday/Thursday’s press unveiling of the NGP, the PlayStation Suite, etc. This first part is the standard industry “let’s talk about the past” introduction, with the reveal of PlayStation Suite. You can watch the other five parts (part 4 is currently unavailable, but I assume it will be up soon) by clicking the link below. Oh, and these have 1080P output if you want to watch it in full HD.
UPDATE
Part 4 available again. Videos are also put into a playlist in one window.
