MAG Acquisition Mode Neutrality
Posted by premiersoupir in MAG - Massive Action Game, QuickNews on January 24th, 2011
In Zipper’s Massive Action Game (MAG), the Acquisition gameplay mode unexpectedly went faction-neutral today, just as Sabotage did a few months ago. That is, rather that having armies defending only their “home” maps, armies defend and attack Acquisition mode maps totally at random. Zipper hasn’t made an official announcement yet about this development, so it’s still unclear whether Zipper is just testing Acquisition neutrality or whether they’ve decided to change it to this system permanently.
What do you think about map neutrality in MAG? Sabotage neutrality seems to me like a failed experiment to address the complaints of imbalanced maps. I’d prefer that Acquisition not follow suit. (Though it is clear to most everyone that Valor’s Acquisition map is the hardest map in the game to defend.)
Update: Zipper has ended the experiment, and Acquisition is back to normal. But for how long? Zipper still hasn’t told us why they changed the mode for several hours. Surely this presages changes to come for MAG.

Portal 2 Mods to be Platform Agnostic
Posted by premiersoupir in Interviews, Portal 2, PS3 on January 24th, 2011
According to a recent NowGamer interview with Valve’s Chet Faliszek, while modding tools for Portal 2 will only be released for the Windows operating system, the mods created on this platform will be available for distribution on any of Portal 2′s supported platforms, including the PS3, 360, and Mac. It’s great news that we’ll be able to acquire user-generated content on consoles without resort to work-arounds or savegame hacks. Let’s hope that this trend continues among developers!
In a different interview with VideoGamer, Faliszek confirmed that the game will have two different end credit sequences, one for the single-player and one for the co-op campaigns.

Killzone 3 Multiplayer Weapons Revealed
Posted by Oly in Killzone 3, PS3, QuickNews on January 24th, 2011

The official Killzone 3 blog revealed all the weapons that will be available in Killzone 3’s online multiplayer mode.
“Our philosophy when it comes to weapons in Killzone 3 is that every weapon has its own unique role in Killzone intense battlefields. A sniper rifle is a sniper rifle, a shotgun is a shotgun and a giant armored exoskeleton is a giant armored exoskeleton. Whether you prefer the close-up carnage of a LS13 shotgun blast to the face, the clean, calculated kill of a VC32 sniper rifle or the agilty and stealth of the M66 Machine Pistol, Killzone 3’s armory has the right tool for any job.”
There are 27 different weapons in total. Be sure to check them all out, with pictures included, here.
