KZ3 Beta: Whine x2

Last night was another night of frustration playing KZ3 beta. On the whole, the evening left me drained.

  1. Initial Spawn Problems
Why is it when I play Guerilla Warfare, I get killed three seconds after I spawn for the first time. At the beginning of the match. It’s not like I wait around before spawning either. I spawn myself as soon as I can, and there’s a bad guy waiting for me. How does that happen? I’m not just talking about joining a game in progress either. I’m talking about a brand new game. How did they get so close so fast? Do some people get to spawn sooner than others? Are the spawn points for the two teams not far enough apart? It’s very frustrating.
  2. Subsequent Spawn Problems
When I spawn in Guerilla Warfare, the system should not put me next to a bad guy so that I die right away.
  3. Missing KZ2 Features
In KZ2, you could go online and check out matches after the fact. Pretty cool, huh? Are we still going to have that for KZ3? What about the ability to create a rotation of games with custom game types and maps? Are we still going to have that? What about squads, and spawning on your squad leader? I don’t see that in the game either. It’s really too bad that KZ3 is missing these neat features. Any I missed?
  4. Maybe Need More Playlists?
They’ve broken out Team Deathmatch into a separate mode. If we’re not allowed to set up our own custom games (see previous point), maybe GG can set up some additional playlists instead. Like an Assassin playlist, where all you play is two rounds of Assassin, with a possible tie breaker where you both have to kill an enemy target at the same time. Or how about a Capture and Hold playlist? Capture and Hold is a very popular match type. It would be cool if it was broken out too. Ditto for Search and Retrieve.
  5. Scramble+ is Too Powerful
The Cloaking and Disguise features are too powerful without a counter. The Tactician needs the ability to find these players in order to balance the game.
  6. Dying Moans Are Annoying
Can’t we please just get rid of them? Please?
  7. Marksmen Should See Other Marksmen
If you’re a Marksmen, you should be able to see enemy Marksmen a little bit better than your team mates do. The ability to be totally invisible is too powerful.
  8. Die and Choose Class
I had this same complaint about KZ2, and they never fixed it there. Hopefully they can do something this time around. I don’t want to wait for a Medic. They never arrive. I’d much rather spend those five seconds choosing a class. Instead, I have to wait for the timeout. Every. Single. Time. (Because there are never any medics.) Only then can I choose a class, when I’d much rather be in the game already playing. So please let me choose a class during those five seconds.

On the whole I get the feeling that GG isn’t all that good at game balancing. Often playing Warzone or Operations, things feel so lopsided that I just want to give up. The Spawn and Ammo dump camping are terrible problems, and we don’t even have the turrets to protect our home spawn like we did in KZ2. Plus there’s all the other things I’ve mentioned in this and previous posts.

So far I’ve had two frustrating nights and one fun night playing KZ3. That’s not a good ratio. I hate to bring up CoD, because I know there’s so many anti-CoD fanboys out there who’ll rail on me, but I will anyway. When I play CoD and do badly, I wonder how I can improve my game next time. When I play KZ3 and do badly, I wonder how the game can be fixed. That’s not a good sign.

You bring up some excellent points. The fact that this is a beta gives me a little hope. Maybe they will fix these issues. I hope we don’t have to wait until patch 3 or 4 for them to fix little things like spawn points.

you realize it’s called a beta for a reason, right? I wouldnt just to conclusions just yet, they’ve already released a patch and have several other patch fixes in the works. the fact that you list several problems they’re already working on pretty much means you have no interest in actually do some sort of background reporting before you write an article. furthermore if you think your half-witted comments and judgemental responses are going to deter me from picking up the game – you are mental.

in the interest of saving everybody’s time and essentially not making yourself look like some backwoods chucklehead, next time research all aspects and look at it from the development standpoint. you’re not the only playing the game.

and of course it could be that I just don’t plain like you. or not.

and why in the blue hell would you tag this “killzone 2″?

it’s not even the same game….

Are you even playing the game? “We don’t even have the turrets to protect our home spawn like we did in KZ2″ – Yes there is in both main spawns.

“Missing KZ2 Features & All other complaints” – Its a Beta.

I’m sorry but for someone who writes on a gaming site you don’t really seem to know a lot about gaming or how games work.

I also fear this will become a common attempt from you in the future to get your site traffic up, which is a shame because this site was higher class.

I actually agree with a bunch of this

I thought it brought negativity as well. Not the route I would have gone myself.

I think your KZ3 article updates are great. I feel you on some of these issues.

I really dislike KZ2, but really like KZ3 beta. Control wise, it’s more my style. And I like the pop-up points, those are fun. Pre-ordered, I don’t want to have to pay for those additional maps down the line.

Regardless of what little things anger me in this beta, it’s still addictive and fun… unlike KZ2, which has a progression system that sucks the fun out of the online.

Lets extinguish the “its for the hits” remarks. He is a co-writer and he writes whatever story he wants without communicating it to the rest of us. He has no partialness to the amount of hits this site gets.

1 & 2. Spawn problems I’ve never had yet. At least not as bad as I have had in COD:Blops where I’ve actually spawned dead. I did have on instance where a guy was trying to camp the home area through the window, but the base turrets (which are there) took him down.

    3. The rotation of game types is there in Warzone. It runs through several game types in one match. As far as seeing the aftermath of the match, we will have to wait and see.

    4. I’m not sure I follow

    5. I agree its needs to be slightly nerfed, but it hasn’t been a huge problem for me either.

    6. lol I don’t mind them, but they can get loud in surround sound.

    7. This makes sense actually.

    8. I get helped by medics a lot. It depends on the game type however. Deathmatch normally not, capture the flag normally not either, but on capture and hold games I get raised a lot.

nice article. I do agree with you in some points hopefully they iron somethings out before release

whoever is bitching about how the article is tagged might want to get off the Internet for awhile. what a dope

The one issue I have is when I place a turret, if you walk forward too quickly, you essentially walk through the turret as it is forming and it hurts you. I don’t recall that from KZ2. Then again I was mainly a medic in KZ2.

  13. #13 by Sylvrfonic on February 12th, 2011 [ 140 Points ]

There is really a lot of good news hidden within this article if you are looking for something positive to say.

1&2: Many of your points about KZ3′s spawns would be solved by a team that is communicating and working well together. The turrets are in the Home zone areas. perhaps you are spawning at captured areas.

6: The moans help medics locate downed team mates and it helps to know when an enemy is still alive and could be potentially raised right under your nose.

The other bit of good news is that the release of KZ3 does not shut down COD. If you prefer COD over KZ3 then you stil have a huge community of gamers that will join you. It’s also apparent that KZ3 is not trying to be everything to everyone. I like many of the design choices that the writer of this op ed doesn’t like.

It must be great to have a website to vent your frustrations when you are disappointed in a the beta of an unreleased title. But, 3/3 of the KZ3 opinion pieces have been from the same writer. This site is full of groovy contributors. Lets hear some other opinions.

I was in the original beta and didn’t have any of these issues. I haven’t downloaded the current one, as I’m just happy to wait until the game is released.

However, if these things are big problems for you, I hope you’ve mentioned them on Guerilla’s official forums so that they may actually address them, apart from just letting off steam here.

  16. #16 by Flashray on February 12th, 2011 [ 90 Points ]

I disagree on marksman being overpowered.
If you barely move you can be seen easely, so you camp with a sniper rifle. Then what? You kill a guy or 2 but don’t get cloak for about 20 seconds and you get owned by anybody that passes by.
The best thing about marksman is the assault rifle in my opinion.
The radar jammer, like in mw2 with scrambler, is revealing your position to the enemy, which is bad for you.
Tactician’s ability is already strong enough, it’s ok if it has a counter, besides not everybody upgrades their cloak to max (i think you need max for you not to be detected).
The spawnkilling issues are not bad at all for me. I mean rarely, 5 secs after I spawn somebody we’ll slice my throat, but there’s no (or almost no spawn camping) in the games I play.

For the more playlists thing: it’s a beta. We should already be happy we get to test the game for free and make the developpers notice glitches or think about future patches.

As for the die and choose class thing, I agree. Why not be able to choose a class while waiting, that’s a good idea. But it’s not something worth complaining about IMO. I didn’t even think of it as annoying.

So far I’ve only had fun games, and maybe 1 or 2 frustrating ones, but it was because I was not playing well, in which case, I quit the game and find another lobby, or just take a break.

That happened in KZ2 as well. Even if you didnt make the turret you will die if you stay inside it too long. Its really annoying

If that’s what this site turns into I won’t be here. But honestly we do have opinion pieces here and we may not all agree but I can tell you no one is pushing this stuff to get hits.

I wish we could co-author posts on here and do some co-editorials with differing opinions on games. Technically, we can do that now, but only one person will get posting credit, or we would have to do 2 different articles, but it could be a fun feature for us to do. Someone suggested something similar earlier, but I forget who.

    This….

I was in the closed beta and saw none of the problems listed in this article…..and still have yet to find any of the said issues in the open beta…

Well hopefully they will iron out some of the problems like balancing etc for the real game, but I’m still really looking forward to KZ3; mainly for the story but I like the MP also.

I haven’t played the game yet, so I can’t possibly say anything related to the in-game stuff, but what I can say is “If you hate the game so much, what do you still bother to play it?” just my opinion really…
