Eddie: I agree with Jaffe. This whole consumer rights thing is out of hand. It’s surely not one sided by any means.Sure we have the right to do what we want with things we buy, but what about those of us who want a secure system that will be supported and protected by the manufacturer and publishers?Don’t we have consumer rights also to use a system in the way it was designed without having to worry about malicious activity that could hurt our product both physically and monetarily?

Last part of his 4th statement he mentions what is not currently legal, says not to break the law but instead to take it up with the people who make the laws. Isn't this what geohot is doing. His defence is actually an offence on the laws relevant to the case. That's why he has admitted to everything in a very attention seeking way. If he proves what he wants it makes Sony's argument null and void. That seems a pretty straight-forward plan, I guess Jaffe just isn't too familiar with the courtroom which is a good thing because I love his work as a game designer.

Damn you Jay XD you stole my shotgun example! I could care less if someone hacks their own system to be honest. In the same way I don't drink, but don't care if you do. I don't look down on someone who drinks at a party, or uses an illegal drug, I'm not law enforcement. But if you get arrested for possession, or hit someone with your car while intoxicated, I'm not helping you. You did it knowing full well the consequences. I never feel sorry for anyone who fails a drug test at my work place. You knew the rules of the game. Even though I may feel that what you do at your house on the weekend is your business, company policy does not.

going on with the comment about the cars, it is illegal to, essentially, hack security devices on cars, as they have to meet industry safety standards, which are set by laws. You can always have your vehicle inspected by the DMV/DOT and possibly have it reclassified, though.

If you, say, change something in a way that affects its road worthiness, and it is deemed unsafe, you will get in trouble (like not securely mounting things on a roof, etc). Plus, emissions regulations is another one.

Point is, just because you buy something, you aren't necessarily entitled to do what you please with it (buy a shotgun and shorten the barrel, can't do it as laws specify an exact minimum length lol; you also can't go around shooting people, even though that's what they were, essentially, designed to do)
