The plain fact of the matter is this: As long as people like Geohot are out there doing these things, willfully violating copyright law, it becomes substantially harder for consumers to reclaim any of the rights we’ve had erode under copyright law for the last decade. Things like this make courts and legislatures more sympathetic to the big corporations, giving them more room to strangle customers with even harsher copyright restrictions.

In layman’s terms: You don’t get laws changed by breaking them repeatedly and then flaunting that you broke them.
