HOARD to Get Voice Chat

Not sure why voice chat wasn’t implemented into the game when it was released. Maybe the devs didn’t know how well the game would do when they released it, so they decided to do without it. I am happy to say that the devs are going to add Voice Chat in their next patch.

The Weekly Recap (March 20th-26th)

Recap

First of all, yes, I got this done in time for a change. I also dropped the “Poll Results” tab, as I already posted those yesterday/Friday on the last recap (which was almost a week late). I still have the new poll tab up, though, so you can vote on the poll for this week.

Anyway, it was a pretty uneventful week, and the number of posts shows it. QuickNews actually had more entries than the regular, front page articles (beating it out 18 to 15). That doesn’t mean we didn’t have anything interesting, though. For instance, our Portal 2 t-shirt and game giveaway went live (be sure to read the Community News tab).

While we’re still on the topic of contests, I would like to, personally, thank those who entered into the 6 year anniversary giveaway and said all those things about us. Hearing all the positive comments about the community makes it worth not getting paid to be part of the staff :) .

Now, for the week’s highlights. Jason has been keeping tabs on all the sales going on (at least in the states), so it’s nice to keep us informed of those. Also, apparently, GeoHot fled to South America. Here’s a “surprise.” Duke Nukem Forever has been delayed. At least it’s only for about a month or so, but that’s besides the fact.

Battlefield 3 is being looked at for possible Move and 3D implementation (as said by the developers). That, in no way, means that the game will, indeed, include said features, though. We got a few more videos and an impressions post from Luke’s visit to PAX as well. Here’s hoping the upcoming week is a little more eventful, though.

Community News & Game Nights

This week was a pretty busy one, in terms of contests. Markus won the 6 year anniversary giveaway, so congratulations to him! And, again, thank you all for the support! Be sure to check that post out as well, as you can also win 500 points!

We also have the Portal 2 game and t-shirt giveaway. Remember, just because we have a few weeks before it ends, it’s better to get your entries out of the way now, because you might end up forgetting! It’s happened to people before!

Game Night activity has picked up a lot of steam recently, thanks to Jcmdaddy, as he had another Uncharted 2 game night going on. You can read a recap of that event here. If you would like, you can also see a highlight reel of the game they played last week as well.

Ace had also planned on doing a game night for the SOCOM 4 beta, but given how the download size was bigger than expected, Baba0Booey headed it instead. Beyond the comments, there has not been an official recap post of the event, though.

Prince of Persia Blu-Ray Coming to US

The Prince of Persia trilogy has been on PSN for some time now, and European players have had the luxury of getting this on disc, as stated in EdEN’s post, for a while now. I have this ordered, and don’t know if many are aware that it is, in fact, being released in North America on 4-19-11. The titles can be purchased for $14.99 each (on PSN) or purchased on Blu-ray for $39.99. Screenshots below:

Do You Like Strider?

Strider was one of my favorite titles during my early years of gaming, and the creator of the popular series is bringing something that looks familiar to the PSN.

Dive Into the Moon Diver is coming 3-29-11, and is created by none other than Kouichi Yotsu. The game will release along with a demo. I’m glad we are getting Demos with these PSN titles lately; it’s nice to try before you buy (or even try because you cant buy).

SHIFT 2 Unleashed Launch Trailer

Next week, SHIFT 2 Unleashed will be released, and EA has made the launch trailer for the title public earlier today, which shows off some racing (of course), as well as review scores and comments from said reviews.

As a fan of the first one, and hearing about the improvements in this one, I will likely be picking this one up as soon as I can. First, though, is getting my PS3 fixed, which is currently in transit to Minnesota for repair.

If you like racing games, keep an eye out for my postponed day-after-Christmas tournament  .

Game Night Recap – 3/24 edition

Well, alright! We had another successful Uncharted 2 game night this week! We had a total of 10 people over the course of the night, 9 from the site and 1 of my friends, who tagged along for a short while. Participants included Dean, Kennyg, Jason, Tosh, Sakinah, Ace, Geezus, Kane and myself. You all get 50 points for attending. Belmor had showed up, but seemed to have some connection issues.

We started on time and ended up going for 3 hours total, with people slowly dropping over those hours, of course. However, it was all good and fun!

Rockets returned in the beginning, and with 9 people this time around (our tenth didn’t show until after my friend left) it was even more hectic. Ace pointed out how he hated the silence during the matches, then there was the sudden whistle and follow up explosion out of nowhere!

The Weekly Recap (March 13th-19th)

Recap

Yep, another late one. I’m still trying to find time to do things, but between dealing with back pain and stressing out over other things, the days seem to go by in a flash. I’ve been spending most of my time on here lately helping around the community and working with some of you on a few things to help better the site.

Anyway, Tosh has updated my title somewhat. As you know, I’ve been officially labeled as the Community Manager for a little while now. As of this week, I also have the position of Editor-in-Chief. Though, keep in mind, some articles will go through with an occasional error here and there, but I will fix errors if I come across them. If you find one, and I missed it, let me know and I will fix it :) .

Now, as for what went on from the 13th to the 19th, and what stories stuck out. We got a few more videos from Luke’s visit to PAX East this year, which all include gameplay. Despite not being able to record it, he also managed to check out Battlefield 3, which is sure to blow everyone’s mind. Darrin managed to go to SXSW, which happened during PAX, and didn’t let us know (so we didn’t have a live blog or anything), but he did write his own recap of the event.

Eddie, once again, got a bunch of NGP articles compiled to keep us up to date on what is going on with our future favorite handheld (subjective, of course). As for Kevin Butler, he showed off his S.H.A.F.T. method for MLB 11: The Show, so for a good laugh, check those out.

We also have reviews for MotorStorm Apocalypse and TNT racers by Trev and EdEN, respectively. Beyond that, Jason has been busy posting gaming deals and the like, which is a nice feature, but I will try to work with him to make them more pleasing to the eye, so bear with me! Be sure to read through the list of articles, both front page and QuickNews, as there is always more to read than what I talked about here.

Also, don’t forget, you can donate to the Red Cross to help with the Japanese tsunami relief through PSN (the denominations are fixed, but it’s a worthy cause, and you get a free theme).

Community News & Game Nights

It’s been 6 years since we posted our first article. With that, we had a giveaway for a $20 PSN card (linked below). Not much in new features, but we did get a new chat system, which makes personal chats and private chat rooms possible. Definitely a nice upgrade.

For the past few weeks, and upcoming weeks for that mater, the number of giveaways we’ve had/are having has picked up quite a bit. First of all, as I said on the last recap, winners of the SOCOM 4 beta have been announced.

Since then, we’ve also had a Slam Bolt Scrappers giveaway, and even had that $20 PSN card giveaway for the blog’s 6 year anniversary. Luke has also acquired a number of t-shirts from PAX we will be using, including the Aperture Science t-shirts we’re giving away with Portal 2.

It’s always a good idea to come by and see what we have going on for contests! Usually, you can spot those announcements in the green box in the sidebar.

Game nights definitely seem to have been picking up in recent weeks. Jcmdaddy had scheduled an Uncharted 2 game night on the 17th, with a recap of the event the next day. Oly had also set up a game night for Hoard on the 18th (if you can even call it that as it wasn’t, exactly, a planned event).

Poll Results

Updated the old poll with the current vote tallies, and, for the most part, it all stayed the same (in terms of placement, not vote number), save for “Awesome Already”, which now stands at 8 votes.

New Poll

The poll for this week (and next week, due to how late this recap is) is based on Dynojunkee420′s idea on peoples’ opinion about online trophies (as in games that have trophies requiring you to play a game online). He will be rewarded his 100 points soon.
