Although not directly related to Eddie’s post about SOE Seattle closing, Sony has recently come out to say a number of staff have been laid off across all development studios, with Jack Tretton, of SCEA, stating:
Due to the unforeseen financial impact of the earthquake disaster in Japan, cuts to staff across all of Sony Computer Entertainment’s studios have been made. This, of course, has negatively affected development of even our most anticipated titles, including, but not limited to, Uncharted 3 and a number of unannounced titles. As of right now, the Next Generation Portable (NGP) has been pushed back to a possible Quarter 2, 2012 release. We are sorry to have to deliver this terrible news.
Reading through the press release, it appears that Uncharted 3 now has a release date of TBD 2012. This is terrible news for sure. Not only are some great games being pushed back, but I feel bad about all those jobs lost as well. Hopefully Sony can find a way to get back on their feet. You can read the entire press release here.
