Might & Magic: Clash Of Heroes Impressions

What is it: The core of this is a 1v1 block moving puzzle game, where the blocks are fantasy army units. The battle mechanic is wrapped in a 1980′s-era JRPG type exploration and dialog system. This is similar to Puzzle Quest in that it combines a block moving puzzle game with a RPG-type leveling mechanics and fantasy setting, however this game is much, much better.

How good is it: Excellent. It is extremely addictive, and always has you wanting to play more. This game has much more depth and polish than what you would expect from any other studio. The 2D art is beautiful HD and excellent.

Might and Magic: At first, it seemed like this game had zero connection to the Might & Magic series beyond the name (I’ve played a ton of M&M 3,4, and 5). But, this actually does have a spiritual gameplay type connection to the strategic RPG series Heroes of Might & Magic. BTW, HOMM 3 was amazing back in its time, but the sequels have been awful. Clash of Heroes finally delivers a similar addicting strategy RPG fun.

Drawbacks: The loading. For what is such a technically simple 2D game, the loading times seem completely unreasonable.

To Capybara: This title and Critter Crunch are amazing and really show what Capybara is capable of. Why such long platform exclusive times on such odd platform choices: Nintendo DS for CoH and iPhone for Critter Crunch? Obviously, I love PS3 and that’s my preference, but Android would be great as well. I’d love to play Capybara’s Sword & Sorcery, but I’m not going to get an iOS device to do so.

Hunted the Demon’s Forge: Screens & Crucible: Showcasing Dungeon Crawler Customization!!

Hunted the Demon’s Forge is looking better and better every time I see something new. This new video showcasing its “Crucible” mode, shows a little bit about how the “Create your own Dungeon Crawler” will work. Being able to share the created dungeons on the PSN will allow endless hours of play.

Hunted, a inXile Entertainment and Bethesda production, is completely designed around cooperative play with either an AI counterpart, or a friend via local split screen, or online.

“Set in a dark fantasy world, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge is an unforgettable cooperative action game, pitting you and your partner against waves of vicious enemies. Taking control of either E’lara, a ranged weapon expert, or Caddoc, a master swordsman, you must use a variety of weapons, powerful spells, and cover tactics to battle your way through menacing dungeons, overgrown ruins, and downtrodden towns. Discover secrets and complete co-op-based puzzles whilst exploring the sinister world to discover answers to the game’s deep, dark mysteries.”

Hunted is slated for release on the PlayStation 3, in North America on May 31, 2011 and across Europe on June 3, 2011.

New Brink Images

Bethesda Softworks has released a number of images this week for their upcoming games. Here we have five new images for Brink, which will release on May 10th in North America and on May 13th in Europe.

“Brink is an immersive first-person shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character whether playing alone, with your friends, or against others online. You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankinds last refuge. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.”

The game is looking really good, and offers some interesting twists on FPS game play. You will be able to drop-in, drop-out of a single players game, as well as take control of many different NPCs in that game. There will also be a lot of customization possible.

Turtle Beach: Ear Force P11 Review

Recently I received the Ear Force P11 gaming head set from Turtle Beach, and before I get into all the goodness, let me tell you a little about the company. Turtle Beach designs, manufactures, and markets high quality, competitively-priced audio peripherals for video games and personal computers. The company first turned heads with its award-winning line of Audio Advantage USB and Santa Cruz computer soundcards. Now, the company seems to be doing the same thing worldwide with its vast lineup of Ear Force headphones, which are designed to deliver the gaming public what they demand: the best in audio, giving them that edge in becoming the best.
