Clearing Up The Confusion: PSN Online Play Should Be Up This Week

There are many articles out there referring to Shigenori Yoshida speaking to Bloomberg about a May 31st target of having PSN fully operational is still in effect but implying that we will not have PSN back until the end of May. Some of the journalist posting this info are just sensationalist while others are just plain wrong.

PSN will be up this week for online play barring any unforeseen issues I’m sure. Sony did miss their rough estimate which is to be expected when a server of this size is being physically moved and rebuilt. We all are feeling the brunt of this and instead of dividing in anger and misinformation, we need to pull together and celebrate when we can once again play online and sync our trophies.

Nice to see some sites off the panic train. Again this is a snowball effect that started this morning (GMT) as some site posted this as “news”. How quickly we forget. It was first said by Sony that all of PSN’s features will not be available until the end of May. Now that it was said again, it got twisted (on purpose?) and presto!! We have panic.

agreed soulfire we were told that psn would not be FULLY functional till the end of may but people just like to jump on the band wagon and say we wont be playing online games till that date but i cant see that happening id say we’ll be playing by the end of this week just the likes of the ps store and so fourth wont be live till the end of may keep up the good work sony take your time id rather have a secure network than a poor network were my info is at risk again

I don’t know where you guys find so much sensationalist news… I never see them.

What I’ve read today is Full Services will be back until the end of the month, other services (primarily online gameplay) will be available first. But this is old news, it had been previously stated that this is the way things would go.

Glad I spotted your post – just wrote one myself.

I wonder if anyone has already had a heart attack from all this – SONY employees excluded.

@Pedro its all over brother. Lots of sites reporting that no part of PSN will be up until the end of May or at least phrasing the article to imply that.

With that said, you can never post truthful news enough.

I just bought a Samsung Bluray player so I can at least watch movies considering my PS3 won’t read Blurays anymore. I’ll wait until the store is back so I can download some games for review, write those and then send the console to Sony by the end of June… and continue watching some hidef movies and playing with my portables and Wii while they get it back to me.

@Eddie “With that said, you can never post truthful news enough.” Couldn’t agree with you more.

@Eden I was under the impression you had your PS3 fixed… must be getting crazy.

@Pedro: I WAS going to send it the exact day that PSN died hahaha. Since I couldn’t deactivate my accounts, back-up my saves to the cloud and sync my trophies I’ve waited… and waited, and waited.

Yeah, you you couldn’t sync trophies, but as you doubtless know, you can backup your PS3′s HDD to an external medium, like a USB-connected HDD. And you can just copy saves to a thumb drive or the like. Anyway, I’m sure you know all that, but if there’s anyone else reading this who’s panicking about being unable to make backups of saves, well, there you are.

Capcom exec, Christian Svensson’s, response is interesting: http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/27574769/CAPCOM-_How_do_you_feel_about_the_SONY_Hackers&post_num=11#494911229

I’m frustrated and upset by [the PSN outage] for a number of reasons.

As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can’t do… and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation store and that I can’t do right now.

On a related note, as an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.

In short, the hackers appear to be trying to “punish” Sony for some perceived injustice, and they’ve been effective in that I suppose. But they’re also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses which makes it impossible to be sympathetic to their “cause”.

I think that wouldn’t work for locked saves though… Never done it, so I’m not sure…

@Eden that sucks man! I hope it’s done soon so you can do all that and get your system fixed!

  12. #12 by EdEN on May 9th, 2011 [ 136063 Points ]

@premiersoupir: Yep, I’ve backed up my saves to a 4 GB USB drive but having them on the cloud is for “extra protection” and for those games that are locked and can’t be copied.

I’ve got a $50 PSN card just waiting for the store to be back online so I can get Scott Pilgrim DLC and some discounted games…

fair play eddie im glad to see that one site is not running away and screaming everything they here as gospel its not cool, it justs makes it harder for everyone to find real news when it is published but i follow one rule if its not on playstatio9ns official blog its not true

I have never really been able to sync properly so I would celebrate for sure if that works. I just want to see if there are patchs for our games like Mortal Kombat etc

The patch server never went down. If there was a patch available, you could still download it.

    Been through this before….

But the fact that “you’re sure” does little to comfort me on that actual truth. I would LOVE for it to happen this week no doubt…but all I still see are guesstimates.

Whole heartedly agree that getting worked up is nothing more then a waste of time. But it seems that you’re a lil too optimistic. The only official deadline I’ve heard (before the latest 5/31) was last week….and that was blown. I have yet to see anyone from Sony put a date on Online play

  17. #17 by Eddie on May 10th, 2011 [ 44542 Points ]

@Myk Keyword being “should”. The post wasn’t to say when PSN would be back up, but to divert the incorrect articles spamming May 31st.

No date has been set as of yet. The only info we have is from an insider at Eurogamer saying “in the next couple of days”.

theres a new post with patrick saying (its gona be at least a few more days)..this is bullshit but oh well..it is what it is

  19. #19 by Markus on May 10th, 2011 [ 4322 Points ]

May 31st would be disappointing. Sometime this week would still fall within very reasonable imo. By next Tuesday at the latest is really what they should be striving for…
