Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Boxart Exposed?!

Leaked Boxart?

Kotaku is claiming that they’ve gotten their hands on some leaked boxart for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Activision talked about the next entry in the Call of Duty series during their quarterly financial report on Monday. But aside from calling it “awesome,” company executives were drastically tightlipped about the next installment of the COD series. As of right now, we don’t even know who’s developing the game, let alone if it’ll be a new passage in the Modern Warfare series.

So what do you guys think? Is this just an awesome Photoshop job? A hoax? Or something else entirely? Feel free to beat up each other in the comments. :D

What is Call of Duty Elite?

Leaked artwork points to something Call of Duty related with the “Elite” subtitle. Could this be the long-rumored pay-to-play service? Maybe, we’ll get some info in the coming weeks, but, until Activition releases new info, we won’t know for sure.

I really think the CoD line of games has come to a head, it’s a tired franchise for sure, and this is definatly their last chance to revive the series. CoDBo was a total flop, this may be their last chance at breathing new life into the series, and it for sure needs to be a homerun.

Not in sales. It was the most successful in the franchise to date.

that may be, but at a few local EBgames, there are more copies of CoDBo for sale than there are Socom confrontation, theres a bin FULL of them. Sales doesnt always mean success!

For the developer and publisher, it was a huge success. After all, once they hit retail, they’ve already, technically, been sold anyway, even if they’re just sitting in the store. At that point, the retailer is losing the money and not necessarily the publisher and/or developer.

They just aren’t getting the money from replenishment at that point, but since they’ve already sold so much, the lack of a huge number of current replenishment sales aren’t going to really affect Activision/Treyarch, as they’ve already made bank on the millions of copies sold initially, and through the replenishment sales since launch.

If all of those copies are sitting in the retailers, that doesn’t really matter to the publisher. They’ve already been sold as far as they’re concerned.

well when you are activision you don’t care about anything other than money, you consider your customers as ATMs and their opinions are worthless. I don’t think we need to go through the whole BK fiasco again.

Real developers and publishers gague success on how well their customers rate the game and how well the game is recieved, not money.
If sales were the end all be all, the Virtual Boy would have been on the market longer than 6 months.

Well, CoD is one of those franchises that will make money regardless, if only because of the name. Even if there’s no innovation, people will still buy it up. Activision knows this, so they’re going to milk it to death, obviously. It happens with sports franchise games all the time, but it will, eventually, bite them in the ass.

Who really cares what the box art looks like. I only want to be sure that the PS network is up before I fork out $60 for another game that will just gather dust.
