Oly: I’ve recommended a friend and my son’s friend to skip it, based on knowing what type of games they like and don’t. but I did say they should borrow mine when I’m done just to see what it’s like.  

Yeah, it’s certainly not a game like CoD or GTA, which is really for “anyone” who likes to play games. It’s definitely aimed at a more mature audience, and much of the subject matter reflects that. It’s also slower than most other Rockstar games, and most other open world games in general. It’s not for everyone, and not everyone will like it’s methodical style.

It goes back to my earlier statement about if you find playing detective, uncovering crimes and investigations and read people is at least a bit intriguing it’s a definite buy.

BLOODYICECREAM: Thanks. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for – a comparison. If it Noire isn’t better than Red Dead then I have no real desire to play it immediately.  

It all depends on how you look at it. I found the story in L.A. Noire to be much weaker than in Red Dead, but the gameplay to be much more linear. L.A. Noire is a great game, I just like Red Dead better.

Oly: LA Noire vs RDR.. totally different types of games IMO as well. I’d reccomend RDR to everyone that enjoys playing games. In my top all time list as well.
LA Noire, although I’m really enjoying it, I’ve actually reccomended people pass it up.. or rent it rather than purchase it. Great game none the less.  

Why would you recommend people to pass it up if it’s a great game? Just curious is all.

Royalty32: Im sorry but RDR gameplay is WAY better than LA Noire. LA Noire is an awsome game but u can do so much in RDR the gives LA Noire no chance in being a better game. Also ive had framerate issues, not alot but they are there.  

L.A. Noire wasn’t made with the traditional Rockstar fanbase in mind. It was meant as a more linear game. It doesn’t want you to go around running people over, shooting anyone just for kicks. It wants you to solve crimes and develop the story.

myk26: The only things these games share are developers…not sure a comparison was needed.Also, this is the first time I’ve heard Noire described as an Open World (sandbox). I’ve heard more then a few appreciate the Noire is in fact a linear experience.  

Contrary to popular belief, Rockstar helped develop and design the game, though Team Bondi was still the lead on most of it.

It’s open world the same way Mafia II was. You can go anywhere in the city, but you always have an objective. Except Noire has more collectibles.

Pedro: I haven’t played the game yet, but I agree with the points you made. At least I played the hell out of RDR to know exactly what you’re talking about.I believe I’ll prefer RDR over LA Noire, as I didn’t like Heavy Rain much and those games sound much more alike then the ones compared here.Overall, nice read. Cleared some things about LA Noire for me.
