[E3 2011] NGP Named PSVita, Confirmed for Holiday 2011, Price Revealed

In what was their closing commentary, Sony has confirmed that the PSVita (yes, that’s officially the name; I don’t much care for it) will be launching this holiday season, and for the price of $249.99/€ ($299.99/€ for 3G model). Well within the reach of many people. I’d guess a calendar date will be mentioned soon.

It has been long suspected that the system would retail for a higher price, namely at least in the $300-$350 range, given the amount of technology crammed into the handheld. The games alone are simply stunning and even offer some experiences you can’t get on it’s big brother, the PS3.

With that kind of price, it would be kind of hard to not want to get one. Also, for the record, eat it EdEN, you naysayer :P Be sure to check out the announcement video after the jump.

Damn, beat me to it hehehe.

Well, that’s a very competitive price. One portable on the market does great visuals with glasses free 3D and the other does great visuals with a back touchscreen and, finally, two analog sticks. Will be interesting to see the CURRENT specs for the Vita since rumors say that some huge corners had to be cut to bring it down to that price… oh and Sony is still totally loosing money on each unit sold.

First things first. Great price Sony. You got it right for once.

No monster hunter is an instant fail. Now that I have that out of the way.

Other then uncharted Im not thrilled with the games so I think ill get it and sit on it to see what the homebrew does with the first generation model.

I also want to see some specs. This is going to be my first cellphone after all. and affordable too? Bonus!

Whats that you say? cellphones don’t need specs? But they do when they have monster hunter on them! Oh wait. That I-phone thing.

Man; I just can’t win my own conversations anymore.

Give it time J, MHFU was a smash hit on the psp, count on a vita version, might be a launch secret at this point, or will soon follow launch.

The price is right. If they end up targeting the same market as DS3D it’ll probably be a good fight.

However I still think “hardcore gamers” are a tougher market to please, taking into consideration all the great games home consoles have to offer.

Eden…the lack of my name and your admittance to defeat is staggering lol. Sony said they don’t want to lose money and don’t want to overprice it so they will carefully price it to avoid both.
