Saints Row the Third Gameplay Looks to be “Over the Top” Fun

This video actually convinced me to become a fan. It’s def over the top, but looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. Open world, GTA / Just Cause 2 type mayhem with crazy costumes… how can you go wrong? In this video, Drew Holmes, the writer for Saints Row: The Third at Volition, Inc., walks us through nearly 8 minutes of open-world game play in the city of Steelport.

“Saints Row: The Third is the most over-the-top, biggest guilty pleasure in gaming, and we’re here to show it off. Drew will talk about many topics in this nearly 8-minute long demo including our updated graphics engine, the brand new city of Steelport, some new weapons, new vehicles, and of course, beating down street peddlers with a giant purple Dildo Bat. Did we also mention you’ll get to see the VTOL and Professor Genki’s Super Ballistic Manapult as well?”

Saints Row the Third is set for a Nov. 15, 2011 release from THQ.

I’ve been a fan of the series since the first game. I loved the over-the-top fun. Cheats made it fun as hell as well

I cannot wait for this game. SR2 was awesome, but this looks…insane. First day purchase for me. I’m not going to wait to buy SR3 like I did for SR2 (I only purchased it last summer).

Never played any of the others, but this look like a fun gaming playground. Like the crazy stuff you can do, lol.

I never played the first two. That being said I like the look of the trailer. Should be a good time. However November is a pretty crowded month for games and hopefully Vita’s.

I stopped watching after two minutes of the developer trying to impress me with his skills at beating up NPCs. ‘Cause, y’know, that’s what everyone wants in a game: The capability to slap around pedestrians. The game may well be great, but a word of advice to the devs: Make some small effort to capture my attention with your promo materials.

I agree the game looks good but I find the gameplay I’m seeing completely tasteless. Completely.

God knows people love sand-box games! This looks like a GTA clone with some bad humor. I hope it will live up to the fans expectations, but the competition is heavy this fall.

lol, that’s what makes the series of games so fun 😛 The games have always been ridiculous, and this game brought that up a few more notches on that front, and I think that’s great. If anyone is expecting any Saint’s Row game to be on the serious or more realistic side, you’ll want to look elsewhere of course, because GTA, even though some of the stuff in those games could be over the top, this is not

Any word if Saint’s Row 3 will have online play?

Co-op is confirmed. No clue about online multiplayer, though.

What! Madness, I’ve never looked into this game because my friend played it on 360, and not to hate or anything but the graphics on SR1 and SR2 are complete garbage, at least on 360. Although, my friend is a weird Korean guy so it’s possible he could have messed with the settings and just made it look shitty. Because he’s Korean, and can barely see anyway. Only cool thing he ever showed me was, lol, his character looked almost identical to him.

But, nevertheless, the “over the top” fun in this game is what makes it worth playing, imo. I’m definitely not picking this game up looking for a strategic game, I’m just looking for something humorous and entertaining!

Honestly though, I’ve never played the game but I do have a hatred for it after watching my friend play this game as I went on to play three or four different game with twice the entertainment in each of them. But yeah, my long lost hatred has subsided after this video. If you’re going to go overboard might as well pick up the sand at the bottom and bring home a souvenir.

So over the top… it’s good! On my to buy list right now unless they somehow screw things up on the home stretch…

Did anybody else feel like the city architecture was a lot similar to San Andreas?

However, it does seem pretty over the top awesome fun, just the kind of game great to play when you want some mindless fun.
