Blu-ray Releases for the Week of 6.27.11 | PS3Blog.net

For Lord of the Rings fans the Blu-ray Extended Edition trilogy is finally out. Price isn’t to bad, you can get it for $70 off Amazon. The movie sucker punch didn’t look interesting enough to me to watch it, I’ve heard that it was ok to bad. But the Season of the Witch was a bad movie. Glad somebody treated me to that mess.

The Cowboy Bebop movie is out this week too. Loved the series, the movie was good too. Lastly a movie from the 80’s has arrived on Blu-ray called “The Last Starfighter”. I remember liking this as a kid, but I haven’t seen it since I was 8 or so I bet. Wonder if it has aged well or not. Anything interest you this time?

Highlights for this week: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition + Digital Copy), Sucker Punch, The Last Starfighter, Season of the Witch, High School of the Dead Complete Collection, Warrior’s Way, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Dragon Ball Z Kai: Part Five, Rideback: The Complete Series, Jumanji, Van Helsing, Serenity,

  1. Waiting on reviews on the Extended Edition bluray set since the transfer on the Bluray discs for the theatrical editions was very, very bad.

  2. EdEN: Waiting on reviews on the Extended Edition bluray set since the transfer on the Bluray discs for the theatrical editions was very, very bad.

Exactly! I was thinking the same. Cowboy Bebop had been an old time fav. loved the series, don’t know about the movie. I guess Tosh have seen it, I’ll rent it first.

  3. Another week and no Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki box set announced by Disney. What are they waiting for?

  4. Honestly at this point. I’d be ok with more Studio Ghibli Blu-ray movies. But I hope Disney doesn’t ruin it in the process..

  5. EdEN: Waiting on reviews on the Extended Edition bluray set since the transfer on the Bluray discs for the theatrical editions was very, very bad.

    What do you mean Eden?

It’s been on my shopping cart forever, I was going to get it, but now I need to investigate.

  6. @Pedro,

Theirs nothing wrong with the blue ray LOTR, its some of the best blue rays that I ever seen, the PQ and SQ are both great great, the reason why the LOTR theatrical editions got soooooooooo much bad reviews is cause it is the theatrical editions lol, eveybody wnated the extended edition blue rays so people gave it bad bad reviews only cause of that, now like I said the PQ and SQ are great.

  7. Sucker Punch is awesome.

  8. i’m one of the seemingly few people who loved sucker punch!

  9. @Yourgor: I beg to differ. I’ve seen the Bluray transfer for the original release and they went a bit overboard on the “techniques” they normally use when doing a SD to HD transfer. Colors seem a bit off, actors look a but plastic like in some cases, etc. First movie is the one hit the most with it.

I’m hoping they went back and corrected that with this new boxset but you never know…

  10. That’s very weird Eden. I’ll look for some reviews on it before I get it then, I don’t want wax people on my TV.

    ps: Sucker Punch is fun.

  11. Ok very good stick with the DVDs and please please dont get the new Extended Editions cause they are not going to look any better.

  12. Update the LOTR Extended Editions are just like the theatrical editions looks fake, but to me they are beautiful @Eden you can thank what ever you about them its your god giving right, I was shock when you said they looked fake etc… I really thank it was big improvement from the DVDs and I saw things that I didnt notice in the DVDs, after you said they look like wax I put in my blues LOTRs and still didnt see it, so I dont know.

  13. @Yourgor: What size is the TV you’re watching the LOTR blurays on?

  14. @Eden,

    Yeah I have a LG 55inch LED 1080p TV.
