I think the deal is for the price drop. Some people may think that the new PS3 slim is a better version of the current one. hell, may be retailers will probably promote this for parents and be like "hey this is a new version" ....

This is indeed a great promo for new PS3 owners or those that love trophies and want a second system to boost online with.
