Jack Tretton Talks About PlayStation 4

Jack Tretton is the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, for those of you who may not be familiar with his name. During the E3 2011 expo, Mr. Tretton, along with Kaz Hirai, talked about upcoming titles such as Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3. They also presented the PlayStation Vita to the world. In an interview with Forbes, Jack Tretton discusses how he and his company are not afraid of competition and are ready to back Vita throughout. Here is an excerpt from the interview.

When will you start talking about the PlayStation 4?
.
PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride. And technologically, I don’t think it’s possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have. What we’ve seen from the competition is trying to add features that already exist in PlayStation 3. We invested heavily in that, we rolled a very heavy rock up a steep hill, through the launch period. But now I think that all pays off, and we’ve got a long run way behind it. So, I wouldn’t look for any discussion of a next generation PlayStation for quite some time.
.
I think there’s ground to be carved out for everybody. But I didn’t see anything about Nintendo’s announcement that said ‘Oh, we’d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.’
.
Our attitude is kind of ‘welcome to the party.’ If you’re looking at being a multimedia entertainment device, if you’re looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us.

Rest of the story here.

PS3 Slim Goes On a Diet

Sony’s updates don’t just beef up the PS3′s firmware. They release some small tweaks and updates to the hardware itself, too. Sony sent out the official word on the changes being assembled to the PS3 Slim console.

Gaming blog Andriasang says that the new slim spin-off, dubbed the CECH-3000B, is based on a 320 gigabyte PS3 Slim. The power consumption is being cut from 230W to 200W while the weight is being cut down by 400 grams. Other tweaks include external changes to the power and eject buttons. One retailer also mentioned the removal of LED lamps, although Andriasang notes that the specifics aren’t quite clear.

One thing that isn’t changing is the price. The CECH-3000B model will have the same ¥ 34,980 price point as the current 320GB PS3 Slim model. The included accessories – Dual Shock 3, power cable, AV cable and USB cable — also remain the same.

The new models will start showing up on retails shelves sometime this month.

Resistance on the Playstation Vita Will Feature Online Competitive Multiplayer

The video after the jump is a collaboration of the social aspects to the Playstation Vita detailing cross game voice chat, party chat, game sharing, invites and online multiplayer. About 1 minute in the video there is a little skit on the multiplayer aspect of the Vita showing off Resistance. Now I’m sure it is in the pre-alpha stage at this time but this confirms that they plan on putting competitive multiplayer in Resistance which has not been mentioned before. This is great news and I’m sure we can expect many more announcements and hidden gems like this for some time to come.
