That’s right, the Japanese gov’t required more stringent security protocols to be put in place. Good on them. I hope that Sony’s experience from the Japanese strictures may be applied to PSN infrastructure around the world.

The long delay was caused by the Japanese’s legislator’s (quite appropriate) paranoia about the hacking attempts and Sony’s reluctance to be transparent about the measures that they are implementing to make the network more secure: http://www.dailytech.com/Japan+Refuses+to+Approve+Sonys+PSN+Reboot+Demands+Proof+of+Security/article21638.htm
