I’d make one “Dream” change. Make the HDD a Solid State HDD.
That would me a major game changer. With lower power use, extreamly fast, lower heat output, and pretty much silent.Bad thing is SS-HDD’s are stupidly expensive right now. A standard HDD cost around (US)$0.05-$0.10/GB. Right now SS-HDDs are in the price area of around (US)$1.20/GB. Thats the price point standard HDD’s were at in 2001.So it would be cool but the price is what kills the idea…..But we can still dream.  

You shouldn’t forget PS3 was really expensive when it came out, so we might see something similar for the PS4, with prices decreasing gradually over the years obviously.

I’m all forward, I don’t see why they should cut back on pricing, if that, in the end, makes the console last a couple more years. I personally think it’s worth it.

The worst thing of any console is that late in it’s life devs push it too hard and it ends up hurting gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, I love good graphics, but I prefer a smooth experience, with short loading times and smooth frame rate. So they shouldn’t be cheap otherwise, it’s just going to hurt us gamers in the end.

Maybe in the USA it’s common to just pile up consoles on your living room, but here it’s a big expense and we have to plan accordingly, still the PS3 cost over U$800 here, so you get the point.

Anyway, what I meant to say is, sometimes, it’s worth it to pay more for better quality and longer life span.

SL33PY: Also if Sony is as smart as I always thought they were in the past, the PS4 architecture will be similar to the PS3′s but with some small optimalizations.
1: Cell Processor with 16 APU’s, the programmers got used to APU programming, no need to ditch the Cell.
2: Full memory access for each APU. At this time each APU only has 256K of memory that it can use to do a job. Way too little imo.
3: More RAM, the PS3 had only 512Mb of Ram and, more problematic, half of it was ALWAYS reserved for video, while developers didn’t need that much RAM for the current graphics. They needed more general working RAM
4: The latest and greatest chip of nVidia
5: Faster BD (maybe quieter too?)
Slap on a 500Gb HD and the research is as good as done
