PlayStation Plus Subscribers: here’s your July content!

It’s only the first week of July and we’re already being told what the rest of the month will bring to paying PS+ subscribers. Not that much to see (which is weird since this is the one year anniversary of PS+ and one would think an extra game or two would make it an eventful month), but what we get is still free and the discounts are very interesting.

Here’s the full list of content provided in the next two store updates to make the most of your $50 investment (you DID get a yearly subscription or renewed it already, right?). I’ve taken the liberty to highlight what you REALLY need to consider:

oh may have to pick up Borderlands now for that price been interested in the game just never bought it. wonder if it comes with all the DLC

  2. #2 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@Kane112: That is a yes. It’s the full game and all 4 DLC packs. Since each pack is $10 this IS a steal and cheaper than the GOTY edition.

  3. #3 by premiersoupir on July 8th, 2011 [ 17020 Points ]

Yeah, I’m with you, @EdEn: A pretty lacklustre list, particularly since Sony is promoting PSN+’s first anniversary.

But on another note, for anyone who never got around to Borderlands, $15 for the original game plus all the DLC (four expansions, each of which retailed for $10) is an outrageously good deal. Fun FPS/RPG that supports local and online co-op play, which I appreciate. You get a huge game for that price. As I recall, I spent over sixty hours on one play-through, and I only played the original campaign plus two of the four DLC packages.

Apologies — apparently you all already had the Borderlands conversation even as I was composing my post.

  5. #5 by dragon290513 on July 8th, 2011 [ 7218 Points ]

this month is so underwhelming, perhaps I may hold on until next month to renew my subscription

  6. #6 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@premiersoupir: Yeah, the list of content for July is NOT how you get those “free month” PS+ users to drop $50 on your service. They should have made July so heavy loaded as the first PS+ month last year and they would have obtained at least a 30% of users to get a sub.

  7. #7 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@dragon290512: I really like the service overall (cloud saving is worth it by itself since we can now back up protected saves) so I renewed already to get my extra 3 free months… an offer which ends this monday (July 11th).

  8. #8 by Donovanf on July 8th, 2011 [ 89 Points ]

Too bad my free month is expiring

  9. #9 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@Donovanf: And will you be paying for the service now?

  10. #10 by dragon290513 on July 8th, 2011 [ 7218 Points ]

oh yeah i totally forgot about that. Think I’m gonna redeem my subs this Monday! And thanks btw :D

  11. #11 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@dragon290513: Glad I could help! My sub expires on march 2013 now so I’ve got lots of updates to look forward to hehehe.

  12. #12 by ZFM12 on July 8th, 2011 [ 1495 Points ]

Can you renew ahead of time?

  13. #13 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@ZFM12: You sure can. I already did and with my first year + 3 free months, my new year + 3 free months AND the 70 days I got due to the PSN getting hacked I’m set till early 2013.

  14. #14 by premiersoupir on July 8th, 2011 [ 17020 Points ]

@EdEn: Eek, you’re starting to convince me to renew my subscription as well. I got the original 15 mo. deal, and as I think about it, I realize that the extended subscription works out to just over $3/mo., and I’m pretty confident that I’m getting my money’s worth at that price. I just don’t really want to drop $50 right now.

  15. #15 by EdEN on July 8th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

    @premiersoupir: But… you must!

  16. #16 by Pedro on July 8th, 2011 [ 39949 Points ]

I might get borderlands, the price is way better then anything I can find around here…

  17. #17 by Darklurkr23 on July 8th, 2011 [ 22731 Points ]

Yea I wanted to play Borderlands GOTY. And even though I prefer Disc, all that stuff for 15 bucks is an amazing steal.

    Also, Golden Axe!!! XD.

Glad I have my 2ndary account plused the day on 7/2! Wish they would’ve told me they were pushing it to july 5th though, could’ve gotten an extra day and possible another game :D

  18. #18 by EdEN on July 9th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@Darklurkr23: Yep, you can use that free plus month to get Borderlands bundle at $14.99… but if I recall properly you WON’T have access to July’s content as the free PS+ month only applies to a specific list of content made available at the start of the welcome back program.

  19. #19 by xDeFcoN_2FasT4Ux on July 9th, 2011 [ 2160 Points ]

all very nice, but I wish RESISTANCE 3 beta was in there somewhere. Hey will PSN+ get first access to beta, before the Socom Buyers? I know there is a application for a private beta right now.

  20. #20 by EdEN on July 9th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

Well, Betas are usually always available first on PS+ so maybe + and Socom buyers will get in at the same time.

  21. #21 by The_Nmac on July 9th, 2011 [ 47168 Points ]

Might have to finally pick up Borderlands. What a great deal. I am really liking the PSN+. I hope shatter becomes a free game again.

  22. #22 by Markus on July 9th, 2011 [ 4322 Points ]

Yea, the Borderlands deal is pretty nice

  23. #23 by Pedro on July 11th, 2011 [ 39949 Points ]

Eden could you help me out? I tried to look for Borderlands yesterday but I only found it at a $30 (or $25, not sure) price tag.

I’m still a PS+ user so what’s wrong? Is it because it’s my free month, does it have some kind of limitation?

  24. #24 by The_Nmac on July 11th, 2011 [ 47168 Points ]

I think these updates go effective on the PSN Store update tomorrow. Check it again tomorrow.

  25. #25 by EdEN on July 11th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

@Pedro: Yep. as The_Nmac has said, wait for the store update tomorrow. Once the 7/12 update is live, the bundle will be $20 for regular members and $14.99 for PS+ members.

There’s no problem with your free month as any content bought during the trial month will be available on your download list forever (or as long as Sony is without and avoids pulling a SEGA).

  26. #26 by Pedro on July 11th, 2011 [ 39949 Points ]

Thanks for clearing that up guys.

I’ll check it out tomorrow then!

  27. #27 by Pedro on July 12th, 2011 [ 39949 Points ]

Bad news for those who were anxiously looking forward to downloading Borderlands today, apparently the discount will only be available on the 19th… ):

  28. #29 by EdEN on July 12th, 2011 [ 139841 Points ]

Yeah, Borderlands and the other extra PS+ discounted games don’t go live until the 19th. Look on the bright side, more time to get that PSN Card (might I suggest you go all out and get a $50 one to get Back to the Future: The Game Season Pass at $10, Borderlands Bundle at $15 and some discounted games from this list:

    http://www.ps3blog.net/2011/07/07/psn-summer-sale-2011-30-off-11-games/

I would suggest to you Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Swarm and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX to keep you busy for a while.

You DO have a PS+ sub, right? Otherwise, Borderlands Bundle is $20 and the games I just mentioned are $2.50 extra (oh, and BttF Season Pass would be $14).
