The List |

It had been quite a while since we lived to experience a very soon to be expensive, tremendously over-hyped, and overall, achievable year. We had a break down along the way, but the PlayStation wagon kept on moving forward, with what are soon to be the biggest fall releases in history. I am talking big names people. Great sequels and centuries of video games development. This is not a list of what I am personally looking forward to this fall. This is the list you will look back upon and think, yeah, I remember spending my entire paycheck in the local game store that year.

Here is the list of the most anticipated retail titles this fall, arranged by release date. Some of these might include some spoilers, so read at your own discretion! Remember to add any I missed in the comment section for future reference…

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Aug. 23rd 2011)

The game takes place during the year 2027. You will take control of Adam Jensen, a private security officer with Sarif Industries, a leading company that specializes in human augmentations. You will witness a Vital attack on the company which will leave you badly injured and forced to undergo augmentation to survive. The events in the game will lead to the formation of UNATCO (United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition) from the original Deus Ex.

Resistance 3 (Sep. 6th 2011)

The story takes place 4 years after the events of Resistance 2 where 99% of humans are either dead or turned into Chimera. We will follow the path of Joseph Capelli (our protagonist) on his journey to New York City to help Dr. Malicov (stick it one more time) to the occupying Chimeran Force!

Dead Island (Sep. 6th 2011)

Story begins with a plane crash on a Mediterranean getaway. The main character wakes up somewhere on the island and finds that his wife is missing. After a while he learns that the island is overrun with multitudes of zombies. Your life will depend on your survival skills and eventually finding a way out of the Island.

Three awesome titles set for Oct. 4th 2011!

Twisted Metal

The longest running series in PlayStation history returns with the 8th game in the series, simply titled Twisted Metal. Players will take part in the battle of four factions for control, and the prize of one wish fulfilled by Calypso (the host of this blood path contest). The game will feature 16 players on PSN battling in a variety of game modes.

Id software upcoming shooter set tale in the year 2038. Asteroid strikes and destroys all civilizations on the planet. The remaining survivors form settlements around water supplies and maintain distance from other hostile factions whom inhibit the surface. You will take part as a member of the Eden Project. A (failed) project in which hundreds of pods containing individuals with outstanding abilities are sealed underground in a plan to rebuild the earth. You will be forced to head to the surface in hunt for food, water and most importantly … Allies!

Dark Souls

Dark Souls is an upcoming action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Demon’s Souls, FromSoftware. In Dark Souls, Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the King’s Crowns and the original flame at the center of the world. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque monsters and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons.

Batman: Arkham City (Oct. 18th 2011)

Based on DC Comics’ Batman, this sequel to the very successful stealth action-adventure will have big shoes to fill. The story will take place one year after the events of Arkham Asylum and will feature different characters from Batman’s universe. The story will revolve around the new mayor of Gotham City, Quincy Sharp, who, after being incapable of containing the large amount of inmates in city prisons, decides to let them loose in a well-guarded, by private military contractors, part of Gotham he calls Arkham City.

Battlefield 3 (Oct. 25th 2011)

The story of the single player campaign will take part in the year 2014. You will take on the role of two main characters. The first is Staff Sergeant Black, leader of a 5 man squad team on a mission to locate and, hopefully, return a second missing squad investigating a possible chemical weapons site along the Iraq-Iran border. The second playable character is Marine Sgt. Miller during a tank battle near Tehran.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Nov. 1st 2011)

Naughty Dog’s third installment in the Uncharted series will feature our beloved character Nathan Drake and his mentor, Victor Sullivan, on the hunt for legendary city of “The Iram of the Pillars”. Both Chloe and Elena will take part in this Epic adventure.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Nov. 8th 2011)

The story will follow the events of Modern Warfare 2 . The Russian Federation continues their U.S invasion and expand to reach England, France and Germany. There will be several playable characters in the single player campaign including (not limited to) Frost and Sandman (Delta Force operatives in NY), Sgt Burns (Special Air service) fighting in London, Yuri (a Federal Russian security agent), Task Force 141 with Captain Soap, Captain Price and Nikolai (a Russian informant).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Nov. 11th 2011)

Bethesda’s pride series’ fifth installment will take place 200 years after the events of Oblivion where the assassination of the king has driven the country into civil war and the dragon god (Alduin) is set to destroy the world. You will take control of one of the last living Dragonborns in his journey to save Skyrim from destruction.

Assassin Creed: Revelations (Nov. 15th 2011)

This game will feature all 3 playable characters in the past games, Altair, Ezio and Desmond. The events will take place in four different districts: Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial, and Galata. Ezio will be on the hunt for an ancient artifact that is said to be a powerful weapon which could end the Templar and Assassin war forever. You will also be able to continue Desmond’s story through modern day life uncovering the mysteries of his ancestors.

I hope that I’ve covered most of the big names this fall. I am sure some of you think that other games should’ve made the list and others will disagree with some of the choices I’ve made, however, I am certain we all will agree that by the end of this year we all will be broke!

I will be waiting patiently for your thoughts, comments and suggestions in order to keep this list updated till the end of 2011.

  • Oly

    Umm.. DEAD ISLAND, Sep 6th!

  • lol Oly. August 25th Monster Hunter 3 and dont forget Dark souls lol
I enjoyed your post good job

  • from that list cant wait for BF3 UC3 and the new Batman

  • I’d add Dead ISland and Dark Souls as well… but also KoF XIII and it’s awesome Pre-order extra!

  • i can’t wait to play uncharted dark souls and assassins creed. Oblivion looks awesome too, but im pretty sure i wont be able to beat it

Thanks Jason. and guys, Both, Dark Souls and Dead Island were added to THE LIST!

  • Now I only need to find the time to play and $$$ to get all the games I want between DS, Wii, PS3 and PSP. My backlog is at 60 PSN, 20 Wiiware, 8 minis, 7 DSiware and 5 PSX on the digital side and 30 Wii, 20 PS3, 18 DS and 14 PSP on the retail side of things… how the hell will I bring that down with all the great games soon to be released?

  • RESISTANCE 3 BATMAN ARKAM CITY BATTLEFIELD 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY UNCHARTED I’LL BORROW YOU FROM MY CUZ LIKE ALWAYS. great all in caps. ****. Batman GOTY!!!!!

Prioritize my friend. Sure the list above is impressive and any true gamer should have must of these titles in his/her collection, but to be honest I am not sure I will have the money nor the time to truly invest in all of the above titles. Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3 are my priorities.

  • U3 will be bought in 2012 since I’ll get the Batman Arkham City CE as well as the one for Dark Souls. Since for U3 I’ll get the regular retail edition I could even wait until december 2012 when it’s a greatest hits title as I’ve still got to start U2.

  • u will miss out on the MP buying it that way 🙁 as for the CE i think we can hold on 2-3 months and it will drop down in price

  • Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, MW3, Elder Scrolls V and if rumors are true….the Playstation Vita.

  • That’s the list. Nice post.

Personally I’d take MW3 out of it and I’m not sure if I’ll be purchasing Twisted Metal, but it looks good.

I’d also add Deus-Ex: Human Revolution, which I’m nurturing very high hopes for.

Deus-Ex Is on the list now, thanks Pedro. I’ve heard that Deus Ex have high ratings on some (soon to be released) gaming magazines. We’ll have to wait for an official review.

  • I can’t seem to get into Demon’s Souls so maybe I’ll pass on Dark Souls. Maybe I’ll grab a guide to hold my hand through Demon’s Souls hehe.

Batman: Arkham City seems like a must own. I should make some time to play through the first one though. Skyrim is a must own for me personally, it just seems like good RPGs are rare these days.

I’m really enjoying KZ3 so I’m going to have pick up another shooter. Either Battlefield or CoD:MWF3.

Uncharted is also a must own. But maybe I’ll wait for a price drop since it’s guaranteed to be a success due to it’s bug ass loyal following.
