(Reuters) – Sony Corp has yet to secure the next generation of Capcom’s popular Monster Hunter game for its new handheld games device, company executives said on Thursday, after the developer said it would offer the game on a rival gadget.

The Monster Hunter franchise was a major driver behind the popularity of Sony’s prior-generation handheld games device, the PlayStation Portable, in the Japanese market. Its loss could affect domestic sales of the new PlayStation Vita, which starts its global rollout in Japan on Dec. 17.

Capcom’s share price fell on Tuesday after it announced that the next version in the series, Monster Hunter 4, would be offered on Nintendo’s 3DS handheld, which is not seen as a likely hit with hardcore gamers. No announcement has been made about offering the new game on the PS Vita.”

I think that has made my decision on buying one.3ds here I come. As for my opinion for the cart I think we are beyond carts in this day and age. Makes me feel like Im 12 again when I see it :)

Gaf has created a comparison pic of the Vita case up against the 360, and PS3.

    Plus the PSP and DS.

@Jason, I seriously doubt Sony would be stupid enough not to secure MH on Vita… but I could be wrong… Problem with the 3Ds is there are no interesting titles so far imo… Best game for it is a remake…

President of Capcom already told me its a no go. Many capcom reps have also responded to me. Im an avid user of the Monster Hunter Capcom forums and its juts not happening. Nintendo did this with Tri Pedro. They stole it from ps3 and then said it cost to much to develop for ps3 as a poor exscuse. Its not the first time Capcom and Nintendo have partnered up. Look at Capcom and Nintendo’s history, Megaman for example.

You have influences with the president of Capcom? Really?

Sony said to “Ask Capcom” why MH is not on the Vita.

Either way…it sounds like some moneyhatting going on which is common in the industry and if that is the case, good job Nintendo. Nintendo NEEDS 3rd party exclusive AAA title recognition desperately where as the Vita does not.

@Jason, well, if that’s the case I’d say Vita just lost a couple million units sold in Japan :|

Not even a little bit. Monster Hunter is not this godly monolith that people paint it to be. It is a to notch AAA title but its sales are average at best.

The best selling Monster Hunter barely cleared 5 million units. The 2nd best was around 4.5 million. Every other one barely broke a million or two.

In short, having this game won’t make or break a system, but it surely does help to have it.

Am I the only one not liking the new case approach? The old PSP case still looks better, they should have gone with that. and yes the blue color is a bet flashy, which doesn’t speak Sony, its more of that other greened case company in which there name we don’t speak of lol

Lets not blow this out of proportion now Eddie. They simply chime in on our conversations and respond via the ask Capcom forum. Also they say everything is in Sony’s hands so its one of those ask them, ask them deals. I never said I was dating his daughter or had him over for dinner now :)

For me theres Tri G and Monster Hunter 4. I tend to hate more then i like and what I like I truly enjoy so its easy for me to make a decision. The Vita has ps3 quality games that I can play on my PS3. Im not a portable gamer by any means. I prefer to play something on my TV. Im personally tired of fps and these re-hashed titles so Im sticking with what I enjoy and not buying into the force fed Assasins creed type titles. Dark Souls is the next title Im looking forward to as it is doing something new while keeping a freshly changed genre original.
