Last week’s FPS seemed to be a bit harder for most than I thought it’d be. I was actually hoping that the “1 word” hint would have given it away, or at least made it heaps easier, but alas, 20 people got the points for it.
Unfortunately, we’re back to the regular 150 points for the first 10 people to answer correctly. But for those who took advantage of FPS over the month of December, how well did you fair? Be sure to check the stats after the jump. As for this week’s question:
This series was negatively parodied by a highly popular franchise throughout a number of its titles because of some shared traits (and parodies of that series were put into this game), despite the fact that the two were different types of games. Regardless of the negativity surrounding a few of its entries, this series still has quite a strong following. What series is this?
Hint: One title was hyped up with a short live-action promotional video
Hint 2: The series originally made its debut on the PSOne and PC
Hint 3: Idea for the game/series evolved from a love of certain 60s/70s movies

This was a less enjoyable FPS >.> Way too vague methinks. It’s funny, because even after getting the answer, I still think Saints Row/GTA fits decently well.

There’s a difference between being vague and dodging obvious clues lol. With that said, neither of those two cover all of the traits.
Here’s the traits of the game so far:
1. Parodied by another series of games (and also includes parodies of that series as well)
2. Wasn’t hugely popular, but still has a solid fanbase
3. Originally released on PS1/PC
4. Used a live action promo to hype release
5. Idea based off of certain 60s/70s movies
GTA would only cover traits 1 and 3. Saints Row would only cover traits 1, 2, and 4. Neither cover all traits.

Alright I got it. Hope that makes up for not typing spyro properly on the last one. This one was tougher than the others. The 60′s/70′s hint made me think of “No Ones Lives Forever” a james bond parody.

Hint 3 gave it to me. I never participate in these, figured I’d give it a shot, though now I want to know what negative parodies have come out for this game. I beat the first two games in the series. I also still remember the main code from the first game XD.

As for what was parodied, in the GTA series, there were a few references made in GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas. However, the funniest parody was that in Driver 3, where you had to search for a hidden character by the name of Timmy Vermicilli, which was a parody of Tommy Vercetti, looking somewhat similar, but with some messed up features and floaties, making fun of the fact that you can’t swim in Vice City, and kill him.
As for the 60s/70s film reference, that refers to movies like Bullitt, the original Gone in 60 Seconds, Vanishing Point, etc. Car chase movies if you will.
